1). Re-read manual for digital recording device. Practice some.

2). Take same device outside, turn on device and then start car.

3). Let the device record the sound the engine makes when you first start it up in the morning, so you don’t have to attempt to immitate the sound to your mechanic, while looking and sounding like a complete lunatic in public.

4). Congratulate self for a job well done.

5). Have a beer. Rinse, repeat.

I work two ten hour days on Saturday and Sunday, so I know exactly what I am doing on the weekend.

On my next days off, I will be shopping for a new computer.
The old Acera has finally crapped out. The hinges for the lid have cracked and broken.

First high power rifle match of the year on Sunday. And there’s always the weekly a$$-eating from my beloved 95-year old mother who’s got dementia and raises hell with everyone she comes into contact with. Mother built bombs during WWII and it just don’t seem right. Ah well, you asked.

Oh, and I’ve been on a yogurt making kick, so I’ll probably make some more Greek yogurt, use the whey for pizza dough, and seriously consider trying my hand at cheese making.

The Digital Hairshirt…that’s something I have become increasingly interested in. Dunno if I could keep up with the amount of yogurt I eat tho.

    Lemme know how it’s going!

mech, I’ve had that respiratory infucktion that’s going around for 3 fucking weeks now. I’ve managed TWO decent night’s sleep in that time and I’m starting to get really pissed. I’m starting to think that maybe I’m psyching myself out when I go to bed because I lay there and just wait for the coughing to start now. I’m pretty fine, albeit tired during the day.

I’m out of oregano from last year’s harvest for tea ( helps A LOT! ) and this thing just lingers and lingers and lingers…………

Headmistress, making the yogurt is so easy it’s sinful.

    Take two quarts of milk.

Heat to between 175 and 180 degrees. I do it in the microwave, so I don’t have to watch it. With mine, I found 25 minutes on High, remove skin, stir, and zap for about another 3 to 4 minutes is just fine.

Let cool to between 110 and 120 degrees. I just stick a probe thermometer in and check it now and then. It’ll cool at room temperature within 30 minutes. You can always use an ice water bath if you’re in a hurry.

Whisk in a half a cup of nonfat dried milk, or not, it’s optional. Add two teaspoons of yogurt as starter. I use my previous batch.

Preheat oven at any temperature for 1 minute. Turn it off. Turn on oven light. Cover milk and wrap bowl in towel, place it in the oven, then check in about 10 hours. The trick is keeping it at around 100 degrees consistently. If your oven goes that low, great. Heating pad will do. But the oven light is just fine. This is especially easy if you’re going to leave it overnight.

When done, pour off whey (lots of uses for that) and either refrigerate as yogurt or strain off whey to make Greek yogurt. I do that. I use a plain old mesh strainer and find 30 to 40 minutes on the counter is fine, or just shove it in the fridge. Again, use the whey – pizza dough comes to mind.

Two quarts of milk make about a quart of Greek yogurt. So I am paying about $1.50 for something that would cost me $7 to $8 bucks. I use nonfat milk; can use whole, skim, or goat’s milk. I eat about two cups a day.

WX forecast says 70+deg & sunny.
    One word: iHammock
Everything else will be merely to get me in the mood.
    Oh,
    … and this range time.
… and this mulching of leaves and picking-up of pine cones.
… and this surfing for a 3D HDTV.
… and this sorting of stuff on the office floor into files.
    … and this eggs Benedict.
    But mainly the iHammock.

SondraK, A couple of hot toddies triggered the fever that finally broke my flu weds. Now I’m on the trailing end of it — except this morning when I woke myself up at about 3 am sounding like I had swallowed a kazoo on my right side. Thought I’d have to go to the doc but It cleared up after hydrating and a hot shower.

Lavendar flower tea works wonders. I’ll try the oregano tea–how would I use the oil in this case?

mech, the oil is pretty strong for a tea but you steep the leaves to release the oils so it’s the same principle. Just tastes milder I guess.

I’m about the same and made it to work today. But compared to having been hammered roadkill, 70 is like being back in college in springtime.

I don’t get it. I haven’t been that kinda sick in at least 20 years. I blame all of the disinfectant crap that everyone uses (which I refuse). For me, I hold the bathroom door open for the next guy, barehanded (shudder!), while he stands there with paper towel in hand. I welcome the immunity workout. Seriously, I think it helps to be exposed to as many germs as possible, in small doses. Now pollen, on the other hand, is a totally different animal.
