On Considered Choices

…or not

In 1946, 17 year-old Cesar Chavez enlisted in the Navy, spending what he would later describe as “the two worst years of my life.”

“Naming a ship after Cesar Chavez goes right along with other recent decisions by the Navy that appear to be more about making a political statement than upholding the Navy’s history and tradition,” [Duncan Hunter, R-El Cajon, said

Hunter, who served as a Marine in Iraq and Afghanistan, said that if the Navy wanted to recognize “the Hispanic contribution to our nation, many other names come to mind.”

Hunter mentioned Marine Sgt. Rafael Peralta, killed in combat in Iraq and nominated for the Medal of Honor.

Your Navy is being squandered on the altar of PC. This is the least of it.

Details: This is a Lewis & Clark dry cargo ship. The first such ship is the …. wait for it … “USNS Lewis and Clark”.

Here’s the rest of those ships:

(From Wiki – the URL wouldn’t post; look for “lewis and clark dry cargo ship”.)

    A few names:
    Sacagawea
    Alan Shepard
    Richard E. Byrd
    Robert E. Peary
    Amelia Earhart
    …..

All significant figures from American and Naval history (for the first 12). Nr 13 is the USNS Medgar Evers. USNS Cesar Chavez is Nr 14. It wouldn’t surprise me if some years down the line, they christen (you’ll excuse the expression) USNS Barack Obama, at which he’ll look down and say, “Aw, shucks, you shouldn’t have”.
