People gather for a ceremony to unveil a 986-pound, 5-foot-long steel beam that arrived Monday at Gig Harbor. It’s part of the wreckage left after the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

    True, but I tend to the more forgiving in this case.

    It sure looks like they meant well; I can forgive pretty much any breach of flag etiquette if the breaker was simply ignorant – as this person almost certainly was – and was trying to be respectful, which is equally evident.

    Intent matters for a lot, and meaning well and trying to be respectful makes up for a lot of cluelessness.
