Umm yea, Government mandates and overreach for the express purpose of taking over 1/6 of the US private economy. A potion of the economy that would give Washington direct control over life and death issues in your life.

I know I’m a bit slow, but… Aren’t we talking about insurance? Or did I miss something?

“Insurance”, as-in a financial vehicle to prevent bankruptcy in the case of (highly unlikely) catastrophic-ly expensive illness.

Really, did I miss something(like the last 50+ years)?

Just occurred to me. (spoiler alert)
The last episode of “The Borgias” season one has Lucrezia seeking a divorce (annulment) from her abusive husband (abusive as well as failed to supply troops as part of the marriage deal he made with her dad, The Pope). The only reason The Pope or the Church could accept was inability to consummate (yes, of course he did, Lucrezia was a lying slut and with-child by the stable boy). To verify her claim of impotence, they made her husband demonstrate that he could actually “do it,” so they brought in a couple’a butt-ugly prostitutes and plumped them and a mattress down in front of the gathered snickering Pope and Cardinals. He opted to confess to impotence.
