RutherfordGate: Historian Responds to President Obama’s Hayes Slur

We thought it was a bit unsporting of Obama to attack President Hayes, who is quite unable to respond. So we called up the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center in Fremont, Ohio, where Nan Card, the curator of manuscripts, was plenty willing to correct Obama’s ignorance of White House history. Just as soon as she finished chuckling.

Wait, so Hayes didn’t even say the quote that Obama is mocking him for? “No, no,” Card confirmed.

In fact, Card noted, Hayes was not only the first president to have a telephone in the White House, but he was also the first to use the typewriter, and he had Thomas Edison come to the White House to demonstrate the phonograph. “So I think he was pretty much cutting edge,” Card insisted, “maybe just the opposite of what President Obama had to say there.”

Might want to exercise some caution on this thread. There’s a post back at the linked article attributing the apocryphal Hayes quote in a Reagan speech. Not saying Obama didn’t use it, just saying he may not be the only one….

I don’t have the time to research it further than the immediate links, but posters beware how you look at this one.

What ever who ever— most of his latest so called presidential visits to speak to mush brains are very presidentially written. Me thinks his teleprompter either needs to be fired or is very tired of his BS and exhausted from being hauled all over the world to speak for him so it’s just saying crap a 5 year old would say.

At least President Hayes didn’t wait 5 years to bring those new technologies into the White House- like Obama saying he plans to buy a CHEvy Volt in FIVE years.

C’mon Barack, time to update the Limo.

    Manchild is not of America.
An aside, thinking about Uhbama’s preference for addressing malleable mushbrains:
Had dinner last night at local university cafeteria (good meal, BTW) and surveyed the scene. At the next table was a young woman, tapping away on her laptop the whole time we ate. She had decals all over the back of her laptop, and she reminded me of a white Moochelle – scowling, downturned mouth, clamped jutting jaw, unkempt hair, and no doubt at this local bastion of Liberalism, majoring in Angry Studies. She was, in fact, so angry, fighting for Justice, that she could not see the irony, the oxymoron, in her biggest decal:

Where are her parents on this?

…like Obama saying he plans to buy a CHEvy Volt in FIVE years….

In five years, one way or the other, the Obamas will be out of the White House so he won’t be taking his second-hand Volt there, which is a good thing, because by then the 200th anniversary of the Brits burning the White House will have passed.

So his Volt won’t be available for a reenactment ceremony.

Why second-hand? Because he won’t be able to buy a new Volt; by then they will be out of production….
