    It’s off the main subject line, but in the link:

    If she decides to take another go at the Malvinas Maldives Falklands, the Brits are going to have trouble doing a lot about it. They have let their navy shrink to the point that third world rate adventurers are starting to suppose they can get away with bearding the lion.

    This should be an object lesson to us as well. Weakness encourages aggression, which leads to war. (The run-up to WW II in a nutshell.)

    Yeah, I was stationed in the UK during the Falklands War, across the hall from Brits who were in play. We were pretty much neutral, *snick* but I got to watch ‘em work.
    Argies never had a chance.
    That time.
    Prob’ly never would’a happened if they’d believed that the Brits would actually fight.
    Now?
    *sigh*
    How many people have to die for historical short-sightedness, stupidity, arrogance, and fantasies?
