That was hilarious.”*
May Day protests may disrupt the morning commute in major U.S. cities Tuesday as labor, immigration and Occupy activists rally support on the international workers’ holiday.
…In anticipation of the strike, the agency that operates the Golden Gate Bridge and related public transportation systems canceled Tuesday’s morning ferries from Marin County to San Francisco and urged regular riders to make alternate travel plans.
…Organizers have called for protesters to block one or more bridges or tunnels connecting Manhattan… to New Jersey and other parts of the city.
…Occupy LA promised the event will be “city-paralyzing” and “carnivalesque” with en route actions… “people’s power and bike caravan” …
The slogan “Forward!” reflected the conviction of European Marxists and radicals that their movements reflected the march of history, which would move forward past capitalism and into socialism and communism.
[May Day Activities] …began early last night [in San Francisco] with a roving band of “anarchists” smashing car windows and store fronts in San Francisco’s Mission District. … started as a “ruckus street party” organized by Occupy Oakland protesters who invaded their sister city last night…
And around the world, May Day progress…
What’s happening in your town today? Near here there are several Reconquista parades scheduled with planned “support” from Occutards and “Anarchists for More Gov’t.” I’m not going anywhere near town today.
[I am going to work on remodeling The Quackery into the The Chook House.]

Potentially Useful Word of Teh Day: “melee”
[next up -- "jousting"]

Too busy working to pay attention. Today is the day to honor Mary.
Ahem:
Look, guys – “Attorney General” is NOT a military rank. You don’t have to call Eric Holder “General” when you talk to his lying ass.
@1, snap-e-tom, Who is Mary? Blessed among women? The “pattern” for the (catholic) church? Obama has some nerve attacking Her.
May Day is soooooo 1917! And it ain`t for nothin that pilots in big trouble broadcast, “Mayday, Mayday, Mayday!”, neither—–
Stilton, how about ‘FOREWARNED’?
I lack the photoshop/artistic gene…
Jousting?
My kind of jousting is where my steed is a big sedan, or better, a pickup truck, and their steed is shank’s mare.
Y’see, their rights end at my nose, and my truck has a big nose.
“Let’s walk.”
“Charge!”
Dammit, Claire!
I had just worked an hour on this very post,
and you beat me by less’n that.
Got nothin’ more to add, though.
Well, ‘cept mebbe this:
Sorry Doug. Betcha yours was better, too….
^ Not bloody likely, mate.
Only substantive difference is the graphic.
(What? Yeah, gotta love a lady that thinks
like me.)Besides, it freed me up to go into full-rant mode, above.
You are too kind, Sir.
‘Sides — anything that allows you room to go into full rant mode is a Good Thing by me.
You guize wanna go around to the side Porch, to swat spit? Some of us are drinkin coffee an lickin the inside of our Oreos; nowaimsayin….. ;)
As I pointed out before, “Adelante!” (Forward!) was the motto of the Conquistadores…
Ya know, if you shoot the first 2 commie assholes breaking windows, the rest usually stop. But, I’d take a few
dozen30 round magazines just to be safe.http://www.myfoxaustin.com/dpp/video/Occupy-Austin-Protest-Foreclosures20120501-ktbcw-#axzz1tfQuh3yc
20 folks showed up to protest in Austin…
*snicker*
Even the occupiers are getting bored with their crap
Gee, snap-e-tom, I always thought that May 1st was the feast of St Joseph, the worker who created useful thinks with his hands. I am more than okay with giving about 300 of the days left to Mary.
Obama had to settle for “Forward”, a marching song of the Hitler Youth, because #occupy had already called dibs on the Horst-Wessel-Lied in its new, 21st Century translation.
Have to remember St Joseph. Thanks.
Yah, 1930, those were the days. Running through the streets, breaking windows, smashing stuff. Scaring the hell out of die juden. We new we were right, so of course we were justified.
(4) yeah, that Mary. ya gotta be Catholic to get the reference. I was taught by Dominican nuns. There was a big statue of Mary outside the convent and every May 1 we would go out and give her a garland of flowers and sing songs. I turned out to be a rotten little s.o.b in spite of all that grace, but I know she forgives me. And all you protestants don’t get yer bloomers in a bunch; we don’t worship her. We just give her the props she’s due. She went through a lot.
As for the reds taking May 1 for themselves, god damn them.
Hog (15): Nice! Hope they are
forefor sale.Same here growing up tho I think the nuns might have been Benedictine, ie OSB.
I still think of December 8th, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, and August 15, the Feast of her Assumption into Heaven, as the big Marian feast days.
I find relevance in that because the former is the same day the US declared war on Japan, and the latter is VJ Day- at least originally.
Come to think of it, snap, May 1st was for Joseph but the month of May was for Mary. 30 out of 31 days? Seems fair.
The month of May is traditionally dedicated to Mary in many cultures. May is considered the season of the beginning of new life.
This was abolished by Pope Pius XII, when in 1955 he established the Feast of “St. Joseph the Worker”, to be celebrated on 1 May. This date counteracts May Day, a union, workers and socialists holiday and reflects Joseph’s status as what many Catholics and other Christians consider the “patron of workers” and “model of workers.”
^ I think Joseph is also the Patron of Departing Souls, which is a nice thing to remember in contrast to communism’s trail of corpses.
Hope he’s blessing the upcoming election. I’d like to see some folks depart 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue & other nearby environs.
Would it be uncharitable & wrong to hope that this fall the Democratic party experiences the most humiliating and widespread defeat in it’s entire history?
Growing up in the Irish diocese of Boston and being taught by the Sisters of St. Joseph we always made out when March 17th (St Pats day) and March 19th (St’ Josephs day) fell during the M-F week because it meant NO SCHOOL!
Oh how I miss the rap of metal edged rulers in the morning.
^ I am trying to envision Catholic school kids only making out two days in the year.
Claire,
Re: melee
Your link left out one exceedingly important example:
Civil War cavalry-on-cavalry engagements.
[insert tome on where/when/why they occurred]
You buffs will know what I mean.
I’m pretty buff (if you stand back a ways and squint a lot), but I know this about War: “If you ever find yourself in a fair fight, it means that you haven’t planned very well”. — Some Dead Guy
