June, 1940. A Frenchman, “Nooo, the Germans are not going to attack. Hitler does not want war!”
(…also, the month that German scientists were testing a V1 “Doodle Bug” cruise missile at Pennemunde….)

Actually, the Maginot Line would have formed a MOST formidable obstacle, IF the Germans had chosen to fight by the 1918 playbook.
Of course they didn’t….
In the same vein, battleships are formidable weapons platforms, provided the other guy isn’t using aircraft carriers and submarines.
Speculating on Frogs is akin to potting your chips playing 21, when your hand is four 2s and a 4….! The French could have finished the Maginot Line; they had a larger Army and better tanks! BUT, the big chink in their armor? They were fucking Frogs!!!!!!!
Colonel Jerry, SIR!: You said : “chink in their armor”, and I believe they were on our side in WWTOO!

Actually Hog (12) we were on theirs, though who knows why. When we landed in Africa, we had to silence the Vichy gun positions that were shelling us before we could liberate them. Plus lots more etc situations elsewhere. I recall us doing lots for them, but I don’t recall them doing much for us.
ColJ (10): uhh…. am I correctly remembering that the French didn’t finish that line because they feared it would offend the Dutch, or something like that? [*fast-forwarding now to current American politics*]
