…thieves also broke into a safe last month and took blank checks, credit cards and cash that had recently been collected from union dues and fees…

On second thought, I’m wondering if the taking of blank checks, credit cards and cash wasn’t a con-veen-ient event to cover uh, “disparities” between the ledger and the contents of the safe.

When the Longshoreman Union is mentioned I remember their all three coast strike in 1967. They refused to load ships including ships taking military supplies for the war in Vietnam. As a result we had shortages that caused fighter bombers to carry only half loads of bombs and artillery rationing their shells. The longshoremen refused to exempt loads destined for Vietnam. Whether these shortages caused extra casualties among our troops I don’t know. But the potential for extra casualties certainly was there. This was the first of several experiences I had with unions that resulted in my hatred of those sorry shitbirds.

If I were heading the investigation into the union hall break in, I would begin by investigating every last member of that union and verifying their alibis, singly and collectively, since they seem to be the folks in that area with the greatest inclination & experience in committing this kind of crime.
