on the road

This is a gift-from-God reality show treatment if there ever was one…

John Waters could have been starring in one of his own films today when he was picked up hitchhiking in Ohio by members of an indie rock band.

The band Here We Go Magic was motoring in a van through eastern Ohio, close to the Pennsylvania border, when they passed a man on the side of the road holding up a sign. They picked up the man, who turned out to be Baltimore’s own quirky filmmaker.

To repay the band’s generosity, Waters reportedly bought them all lunch.

Meanwhile, I’m now hearing that a Sun editor spotted Waters hitchhiking — with the same Route 70 sign — very early Monday morning near Guilford, off of St. Paul. He had no luggage, just grocery bags and the sign…. The plot thickens…

There’s a road sign on I 70 just west of where it begins at the Baltimore Beltway, I 695. It lists mileages to various cities along the way.

I believe the last listing is “Cove Fort.” There’s not really much of anything there.

It may have been his purpose to travel the length of I 70.

I want Diana Krall to dump Elvis and rescue me from the side of the road.
I know, shit in one hand and wish in the other and see which one fills first.

Still, blindshooter, it’s good to have ambitions.
