meet your 2012 Republican candidate for Vice President

Now that Romney is less than one week away from clinching the GOP nomination, I’m predicting he will go with the most logical choice for vice president …that being Rep. Paul Ryan.

So who do you think Romney will pick as his running mate?

    Probably Barney Frank.

That would be a very smooth move on Mitt’s part.

You can probably figure out why.

How about we give Ryan John Bohner’s job , instead? He would do a damn sight more good there!

For VP I would say Rubio, Jindal or Daniels

    As I’ve mentioned elsewhere:
Kerry Murphy Healey was the 70th Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts. She served from 2003 to 2007 with Governor Mitt Romney…
She currently serves as Foreign Policy Coordinator and Special Advisor on the Romney for President Campaign [1]. Healey was also elected as the Republican National Committeewoman for the state of Massachusetts.

Politics is not without it’s pandering, in fact she has started to drop the hyphen as of later too… at least she’s qualified to be VP.

My fear is that he’ll follow McRino’s lead and choose Defeat as his running mate. First of all, he’s little better than Obama Lite, and secondly, he’s a politician. And as a Republican, it’s his sworn duty to find a way to let a sleazebag gladhanding blowhard liberal beat him like a redheaded stepchild, a la Clinton.

My sole purpose in voting for him will be not so much the “lesser of two evils” Hobson’s choice, but a fart in a whirlwind attempt to maintain some semblance of reality on SCotUS.

Strategically, I think they need to go with Rubio. Groom Ryan to eventually take over Bohner’s spot or for a 2020 run. While it shouldn’t matter, another dual-whitebread ticket will make it more difficult to secure a decisive win.

Right now they need to use everything they can to utterly decimate Obinky with a Reagan-esque overwhelming win to send a clear signal that the Socialist direction is NOT what we want this country to turn into. Otherwise we are in deep doo-doo….

Ryan will be good staying in the house and continuing his work there but it wouldn’t be bad to see him as President of the senate. (hears whip crack)
he would need a strong replacement in the house, though

Rubio chapped my enthusiasm when he recently supported the ‘dream act’, but he seems tolerable.

It would be great to have a team to be enthusiastic about the way Sarah brought life to the geritol ticket last time.

I think he should let the media pick his V.P. they’ve been trying to since b/4 he was even the official candidate– he still isn’t– he’s the presumed. I in my limited wisdom think it’s great that there are so many good people to pick from unlike the Democrats pick for V.P.. The media is going nuts over Biden retiring — they want Hillary so bad their pants are wet at the tho’t of that happening. Obama would win for sure if Biden retired and she ran as his running mate— get that going media and see where it gets you. Bet it would scare the crap out of the Republicans.

He’s entirely too logical, too patriotic, too realistic, too genuine, too grounded in fact for the job. Why, it’d be like going back to the mindset of long ago, say . . . around the late 18th century with guys like Franklin and Jefferson and Washington and Adams.

Bolton! Sheeesh. Next you’ll be saying we should consider people who sneak across the southern border and stay in the country without permission to be somehow illegal.

Well, you got me there. He does.

OTOH, Woody Harrelson is one of the very few lib/progs whose movies I will still watch… sometimes. I just watched Rampart, which may be his finest performance ever. It’s also a good movie in its own right.

I figure he’s so drug-addled that any opinion that comes out of his mouth is worthless. He can still act, though.

I mean, how many people do you know who won’t go anywhere without their raw-food ‘chef’ with them? That’s what I’m sayin’.

Okay, he’s a goof. A big goof. But you should watch the movie Rampart just the same. It’s not like I’m saying you should watch a Susan Sarandon movie, or that Mr. Sarandon guy. That would be too much to axe.

Nobody from the Senate, please. We need every Republican, and especially Conservative, vote to remain there, and then add to the existing total. SCOTUS. SCOTUS. SCOTUS.
Pick somebody from the House to strengthen the ticket? OK.
Groom somebody from the House to succeed Romney. Nah.
If Romney does a good job, he’s going to piss off a bunch of people, especially in a first term (it will take time to cure the economy, more than one term), including people who voted for him.
I think a substantial House member with a promising future would be foolish to go be a do-nothing public relations foil for a President who will have to take harsh measures. Better to come to the rescue on his own record from the House in due time.
And Boehner has to go. Is he opposed in a primary this year? I’d love to see Ryan in his place as Speaker.

Paul Ryan has nice hair and loves to hunt–he’s an outdoorsman. There’s that–than there’s this– he stays in his office in D.C. to save $$–flies home to be with his family in Wisconsin and I’m sure has never gotten a thrill up his leg when he sees this President. He could make Minced Meat out of Biden in a debate. As far as that goes he could make it out of Obama to— I’d love to see that!!! But we need men like him doing what he’s doing now.

He needs someone to shore up Virginia, Florida, Ohio or one of the western states still in play. I’m thinking it will be a Virginia politician. Not sure which one.

The more interesting question to me is whether Obama drops “Slow Joe” from his ticket.

David Hackett Fischer analyzes regional patterns of cultural behavior in his 1989 book “Albion’s Seed, Four British Folkways in America”. He reviews Presidential elections from 1789 to 1988 and concluded the Presidential Teams most likely to win had a Northern member and a Southern member. There’s been a lot of (multi) cultural water under the bridge since 1988, but I think the idea might still hold.

And with just a very little investigation you’ll find Thaddeus McCotter’s political views aren’t all that different either.

He is NOT conservative, he certainly is not of the TEA Party persuasion, he supports the Dream Act, he is fond of gun control and he thinks taxing carbon emissions to pretty cool too.

He is Stan Laurel to Christies Hardy. Glib, maybe, but still an East coast establishment republican. Even if he’s from Michigan.

I wish Rubio had more experience. I won’t cry if he’s the pick, but gosh he hasn’t got very much experience in the big time. He might be valuable at getting votes (not to be sneezed at), but we’ve already had about all the limited experience pols we can stand in high places.

I agree with a lot here that Ryan might be too valuable in the House to loose there.

Please God, not Jeb. He might be a fine man, but the thought of the Repubs running another Bush right now makes me want to shriek, and I bet swing voters feel the same.

I like Condi, but I’m not sure that would work as well as some think, and I bet she agrees. (thinking wistful thoughts though)

I want Bolton as Sec State!!!

Kerry Healey’s someone I hadn’t thought of…. but two NE folks on the same ticket? Hmm… might still work.

Are there any good people besides Jeb and Rubio who speak Spanish? And have high cheekbones?

  36. Posted May 23, 2012 at 7:27 pm |

Hijab-wearing Rice grabs ankles for the Saudis. HORRIBLE choice.

Ryan needs to replace feckless Obummer-golf-pal Boehner. It would be a WASTE of Ryan to make him VP. He’s too good at what he does and he could do magic if the GOP can get both houses of Congress as well as POTUS this November.

We need to hold off on smacking easy target Biden until September because it will likely result in Biden “discovering a health issue” so that he withdraws from the ticket (thereby saving Obama from having to say “I made a mistake”) and strengthening the Dems with a better VP pick who can campaign w/o Bidenisms through the summer. In September, it will be too late for Obama to switch.

Healy is interesting but she’s got way too little experience to be a heartbeat from the Oval Office. We need someone who can shift at least 100k votes in each of the purple states, so Rubio’s probably the best bet at chipping into BHO’s base.

We are NEVER going to get a conservative POTUS. (Reagan did NOT run as a social conservative and didn’t raise social conservative issues until the second half of his second term.) But it will suffice to get both houses of Congress which will be increasingly Tea Party-influenced to ensure that the bills that get to the Oval Office will be slightly to the right of what MR would have proposed himself but not so much that he’d veto them.

Allen West: same thing as Rubio. I respect his military service, and I think he’s great, but his political experience is limited. I think he needs some more experience and some more seasoning.

One of the unfortunate legacies of the W Bush years, was not many good people who could go further getting seasoned as P and VP timber. Colin Powell was an understandable, but terrible choice; and a wasted opportunity. For very different reasons Cheney was unfortunate too, since it meant that someone who could go further wasn’t getting the experience. From a variety of other choices W made, I’m not sure he had very good judgement in these matters.

I spent the entire 8 years of W’s presidency really concerned about this matter, because it was really obvious the whole time.

So the problem now, is how to go forward in a really critical time with people who are likely great, but not quite ready. And it remains to be seen what kind of judgement Romney has….

Having a governor, as opposed to a US Rep or worse a US Senator will help Romney immensely with the informed swing voter crowd. And because Mitt’s health, unlike McStain’s, won’t be an issue his VP doesn’t necessarily need huge amounts of experience. Bobby Jindal and Nikki Haley would cause the left to howl but can y’all imagine Jan Brewer’s name bandied about?

Ok, now I’m just baiting them… or maybe not…

^ Spin: pretty much agree on this; although you can never tell about heath, and it’s not the only thing to worry about, God forbid.

The thing is, I see this VP situation as not being one where a superfluous person sits on the sidelines. This needs to be someone who can help with the fight in Washington, come January, and do a lot more than ceremoniously preside over the Senate.

I personally like Nikki Haley a lot, but I suspect that by the time the IRS has worked on her some more she might not be viable.

Now Jan Brewer…. (*delighted moment of imagining lib heads exploding*) ….y’know, that might actually be a reasonable idea. She’s sure not going to help with the hispanic vote, but she might with women. She’s got (state) legislative experience, too, which might help in the job. And she’s from a different area of the country than Romney, for whatever that’s worth. She wasn’t elected governor though…. So her experience in running in high-visbility elections is limited. And she’s got no foreign policy creds.

(I’m wishing for a good (ethically & politically) governor with legislative experience, foreign experience, speaking well to hostile audience experience; that is loved by women and hispanics and isn’t in the pockets of the establishment. Probably doesn’t exist. Oh. Maybe she can be gay too. *snerk*)

…On the plus side, Jan’s met with a president though, hasn’t she? :-D

Hmmm… I’m not gonna comment on Paultard Thugs, though I hear they are all getting fitted with brown shirts.

But I will say this: I used to know someone who lived through the Weimar Republic’s “political processes” and “election cycles” while the Nazis and Communists machine-gunned each other’s marches & demonstrations, and she (a child) ran through a hail of bullets (that were far less imaginary than Hillary Clinton’s) to get out of the street.

The Germany’s democracy died well before Hitler seized power. I also used to know people who saw the Lebanese civil war. I sure hope we don’t see it here; I wouldn’t give those people an inch.

    Just some quickie thoughts:

Some good nominees. I’ve always like McCotter myself and yeah–for gubbmental intellect–he’s got it. No gravitas. I think he should continue in the House.

Rubio–Pah! Respect the guy like a rock. He stays in the Senate and kicks Lib butt for the next 6 years.

Paul Ryan–we’ve grown to love, appreciate and respect the guy for the awesome accounting he has done AND putting those damn demon-crats to the fire during the up-our-butts O-Care. I think if he gets on to VP with Mitt–we could just be cursing a guy we used to bless. Remember–this is a we’ll take Mitt, the Senate and House election. We don’t want anymore of this demon crap with the present regime.

Mitch Daniels is excellent as Governor and should stay there. He doesn’t want a second fiddle job. He’s got the position, power and the right place to be. No VP thank you.

My Favorite: Col Allen West. Mitt wouldn’t take some one that has told the truth as he did: we got commies in the gubbamint and they’re in the Black Caucus. Oh man. Mitt don’t want the can of bees.

Once we take it back–there’s still going to be a lot of shaking going on.
I’m looking for Mitt to go with a ‘adult’, just about as pure and vettable as he’s been and I can’t say who at the time.
