Lets see— root canal or poke in the eye with a sharp stick??? Which one would make the rest of my day great no matter what else happened??

Are you going to make one of those “Sondra all jacked up on anesthesia, singing rock and roll in the back seat of the car”, videos?

I became a smoker on my birthday, when I got a new grill and a bag of hickory chips.

I can quit anytime, no need for lithium, but pork shoulder, roasted at 330 degrees for six hours, is so yummy…

Missy, quitting smoking is easy. I did it 50 times.

I had to realize I was a nicotine addict. I once quit for three years & had a Cigar one night on Bourbon Street (Don’t ask,) & bought a pack of cigarettes the next day.

Finally just threw the pack away at the St. Louis Airport @ 5am 7 years ago.

You can do this. We are with you.

    p.s. Don’t become one of those obnoxious “I can’t stand smoke” ex-smokers.

This July 4th will be my 8th year sober :)

    I can do this.

    I had a cavity once.

But it was in a baby tooth and I got a quarter or so for it.

as for lithium I am unfamiliar with it and never heard of it in relation to smoking cessation.

    interesting

Aug 1 will be 17 years tobacco free, hardest thing I’ve ever undertaken…easier than getting sober 2 years earlier. You can do it, trick is to not cave-in for first two weeks of hell, and promise yourself to never ever buy cigarettes again. Seeing “Waterworld” that day was particularly poignant.

mech…I haven’t either but I’m going to need SOMETHING like it to get thru the first 3-5 days of withdrawal. I tried to quit once already and got violently ill after only 14 hours :(

Not drinking was/is easy for me and having had a cocaine addiction many moons ago while that wasn’t as easy as alcohol I handled that pretty well too.

    The cigarettes…oye…

    But I’m fucking done.
If I weren’t gonna be doing something incredibly fun for the next couple weeks * ;) * I’d quit now but I am not going to spoil it so it’s gonna be my last hurrah.

..headmissy…..”Smoky Mountain” Wintergreen flavor I recommend…..it is all herbal….no tobacco, but gives a strange tobacco satisfaction…..have been using it since I quit Copenhagen in 98′….

I quit smoking dozens of times; I have been in remission for 30 years. My secret was to test whether I was still a smoker by just stopping, preferably when I was not feeling well. If I lasted an hour, a day, a week or a month and started up again, I would not stress it since stress made me want a smoke. I would later quit when the mood struck and once again test if I was still a smoker. It finally work… or, if not, I can always quit again.

Had a job in high school at a bowling alley. Plenty of smokers, and one of my jobs was to empty all the ash trays and spent fountain drinks in a 5 gallon bucket. Never wanted a cigarette before and definitely after that.
I know you can do this. And next time you want a smoke, try holding your breath for two minutes.

Hey, you got me to quit 4 years ago so I definitely have got your back now!

Sorry Chantix® didn’t work for you then. Saved me a good chunk of change the past few years.

I took up cigar smoking two years ago, and I also increased my alcohol consumption.

Try an e-cig; I’ve quit and started back up 3 times before I got one; this was the most painless, been 6 mos off and no desire to start up again. It’s enough like a cigarette to pull you away from the edge, different enough that you can put it down easily once you’re over tobacco.
It’s also about 25% the cost of cigs if you just have to have a drink in one hand and a smoke in the other.

Congrats, Jim. I think that is what will help me the most…
I’ve helped a few friends gain sobriety over a few demons and I just kept telling them to give it 3 months so they can see what it feels like ( that’s about how long it took me to get a decent grip on the alcohol and really feel sober and better anyways )

I want to smell GOOD stuff and ( lol @ mojo ) perhaps feel what it feels like to run on the beach a couple miles :).

Doc told me ( after I explained my 6 month stint of outpatient for the alcohol taught me all the coping skills etc ) to use the patch and gave me a script for 7 daze of Zanax to keep me knocked down until the strong physical stuff passes………
