The U.S. Transportation Department has given the green light to developers of DesertXpress to begin preliminary engineering for the $6 billion, 186-mile high-speed rail project that would link Las Vegas with Victorville, Calif.
…DesertXpress Enterprises has no qualms about borrowing from taxpayers — and borrowing big — for a project that skeptics say has little chance of gaining the ridership needed to pay for it.
The company has applied for a $4.9 billion loan through a federal program to construct what is billed as a $6 billion project. Since the plan was presented nearly two years ago, the cost estimate has ballooned from $4 billion.
The Federal Railroad Administration will hire an independent analyst to determine if ridership estimates, $50 one-way fares and other related revenue will be enough to repay the loan and prevent taxpayers from getting stuck with the bill.
Since the Southern side of Hwy 15 is the Mojave National Preserve*, I bet property on the North side is getting a little pricier…

Not often I’ll side with Dirty Harry on anything but the uniforms are burn worthy. Obviously “Queer Eye for a Straight Guy” was consulted.

For the London Olympics they should have issued the Americans panchos an American cowboy hats to wear in the rainstorms in the UK. Plus hip boots…..same as senators wear…………….

But unless a US company wants to sponsor the team like Ralph Lauren does as “official outfitter” and make the uniforms in the US as well, Reid can go piss up a rope about it.
The piper calls the tune, and the Olympics are [at the level of nationalism, rather than of individual athletic achievement - and where the uniforms are made is a matter of nationalism] bullshit anyway.
We wanted “X Men” style uniforms, we got “Danish Palace Guards”

Aside from some athletic wear (sweatshirts and sweatpants, that kind of stuff), there are almost no clothing manufacturers left in the US. They all moved overseas.
