I think some damage was done to Romney. Things stick in peoples’ minds and every little doubt about someone you can instill in those people helps. As a rule, people hear ‘so and so is a wife beater’ and never catch the page 3 story later in the week that his wife was just launching a counter offensive when she got caught blowing the gardener.
I don’t credit much of the general voting public with enough attention span to hear more than can be written on a T shirt or bumper sticker. The good thing is that this was done early in the campaign and Romney et al have ample time to repeatedly call the Obama camp a pack of liars. Had the Dems waited til October to drop this, it would have been far more effective.

I kinda go with what Joe (10) is saying, because of the knee-jerk
attention span of most of the libtards. They don’t seem capable
of re-thinking or modifying a ‘rigid’ belief, even in the presence
of new or changing information. Also most of the BamBam
fanatics I’ve heard, don’t seem to be using rational thought or
critical thinking about this election.
However, it’s only going to take the ‘conversion’ of a percentage
of the independents & cross-overs to swing the vote our way
so I think there’s hope.
I also like what’s happening in the MFM as TomR (8) has explained.
There’s still time for a much greater MFM swing away from BHO!
At the rate he & his campaign are ‘screwing da pooch’ I think there’ll

So do I. This is the chronic Republican political disease (or at least one of them); I’m hoping that it will turn out that Romney has it less than some. He likes to win, and he’s been successful at it in other arenas, so we will see.
Let’s recall that while the other Repub primary candidates mostly self-destructed, Romney did give some of them a nudge to help them along. The Dems are vulnerable to self-emolation, and the thought of this happening on a larger scale in the general election is a kind of a delight.
