Freedoms of expression should be and must be guaranteed and protected, when they are used for common justice, common purpose. When some people use this freedom of expression to provoke or humiliate some others’ values and beliefs, then this cannot be protected in such a way. My position is that freedom of expression, while it is a fundamental right and privilege, should not be abused by such people, by such a disgraceful and shameful act.
I think he’s a little unclear on the concept.
These events bring into clear focus the differing views of free speech between cultures. The US has some limits on speech: you can offend, but you are not permitted to provoke violence. On the other hand, in some places giving offence is punishable (by death, even!), but provoking violence is okay. Go figure.

All of this has nothing to do with free speech—nothing– except to use it as a tool. Anyone who thinks so is a fool.

It matters not what we do to quell these riots–the rats go back in their holes and plot their next riot using the $$ we tax payers send them because we think they’ve seen the light and are reforming. How many years has this been happening? In the mean time they are begatting more and more rats and invading more and more of the world. It’s a matter of free speech all right.

Breaking news! Nature has not changed! The plan of the day is still, survival of the fittest; got that Poindexter? Ackmed?
For doubters, I have a simple test. Plant a row of big, juicy tomatoes in your front yard, preferably close to the sidewalk or street. Religiously fertilize, water and pinch off the suckers. Hell, use some psy war: stake a sign that says: “Tomatoes are poison!” [...don`t forget to use *Spanish*...].
Count the number of tomatoes in your harvest. This will not take long!

Good point, but I’d change “provoke” to “incite.”
Provoke could mean to give a reason to riot.
Incite means to advocate the riot. Insult is not incitement.
“Your moms dress you people funny,” is protected speech.
“Hey, guys. He insulted our dresses. Let’s kill him.” is not.
(Also, deadly force is never legal as a response to words alone.)
Slander/libel (false character assassination), on the other hand, are a civil actions, not a criminal.
(Need some lawyerin’ input, here.)

You’re right, Doug. “Incite” is the word I was looking for.
Blue shirts to the front!!!! He’s just moving because he has a white shirt. The red shirt had to go way to the back.

iD (5) Great comment & quote!
I wonder how many peeps can see through the nice sounding BS
& double talk of Ban-Ki Moon’s statement! Like who’s gonna
decide what “to provoke or humiliate some others’ values and beliefs”
means & what is permitted & prohibited under these ‘laws’
& what will be done to ‘punish’ the offenders & by whom?
There is an tsunami of this kind of ‘good sounding’ but
total inclusive & autocratic BS coming from the UN, IMHO!
The word,’fascist’ also comes to mind!

If only more folks would be bold enough to admit that that’s exactly how they feel.
What? Not everybody does? Well they should.
And buy him a beer, or a warm beer, whatever he likes to drink.
wouldn’t it be great to have a president with the guts to say that?
I would be amazed if a single Islamist has ever heard of Pat.
I declare Fatwad!
I think that’s how you spell it?

How did he do that without saying “MFCS” once?
