translated into Farcey

Iran’s state media has fallen for a made-up poll from a satirical US website claiming that a majority of rural white Americans would vote for Mahmoud Ahmadinejad over Barack Obama.

Fars News Agency, a semi-official mouth piece of the Iranian regime, earnestly published a word-for-word duplicate of an article from the Onion, a spoof news organisation ….

It printed the short bulletin in English but did not appear to have translated it into Farsi.

Will Tracy, the editor of the Onion, released a statement joking that Fars was a subsidiary of the Onion. “They have acted as our Middle Eastern bureau since the mid 1980s, when the Onion’s publisher, T. Herman Zweibel, founded Fars with the government approval of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khomeini. The Onion freely shares content with Fars and commends the journalists at Iran’s Finest News Source on their superb reportage.” [The Telegraph]

Makes me wonder how many times it’s been the other way around.
I mean, the MSM sure reports a lot of farcical twaddle, dunnit?
(What? Well, okay, yeah, propaganda ain’t satire.)

More and more the news is like a bad parody of news. First you laugh, then you are chilled by the realisation that they actually mean it.

I remember when Bush 41 showed up for the Labor Day Mackinac Bridge walk. The national media reported that the bridge joined the U.S. and Canada. (But then, lots of folks don’t know, or forget, that Michigan has two peninsulas.)

I remember that Paul— we here in the U.P. are accustom to be ignored– some think all we are is a place for the City Mice to come and play in the woods. There are maps of Michigan that have eliminated the U.P.. Many of us like our secret.
