Wellp …
will they postpone or extend voting in the Sandy-impacted areas?
If so, how will they delay reporting from all the other precincts?
I mean, knowing the general results before voting would be fraught with opportunities for … mischief*.
Offhand, I don’t see a good solution.
(What? Yep, stocked up on popcorn a while back.)

Sandy is racist for disenfranchising all those East coast voters who cant figure out how to vote when it is wet out?
Montgomery County, Maryland, about as liberal as you can get, cancelled Early Voting for yesterday and today. They’ve added hours for Wednesday and Thursday (they were 10a to 8p, now 8a to 9p) and added Friday.
The Constitution provides, “The Congress may determine the Time of chusing (sic) the Electors, and the Day on which they shall give their Votes; which Day shall be the same throughout the United States.
If the dems want to delay, they’ll need the House of Representatives to agree with the Senate to change the date. Here’s another chance for Boehner to fold.
Sandy (and therefore election difficulties) is all Bush’s fault.
* He failed to curb global warming; which would have stopped all storms and seas in their tracks.
* He showed FEMA weakness, thereby emboldening storms and natural disasters everywhere.
We need four more years of Obama so that nature will be calmed and
nationalFEMA defense will be strengthened.I thought obama told us that if he was elected the oceans wouldn’t rise.
Thomas M. 2: yep, but even if there was any chance of agreement, a good deal of the House and Senate membership is out campaigning to save their own offices….
Aside: the funny thing here is that every passing day the Romney campaign grows stronger and the Obama campaign weaker. Delaying the election won’t really help O out. (Except Out OF Office, of course)
How long does it take a Dutch Cattle ship to get from Somalia to the nearest Eastern coast port—–with a boatload of *Somali tourists* trying to get back in time to *vote*?
I’m guessing they’ll try just about anything to postpone the firing of Obama, but I don’t think it will happen. Election day will be the same as always, the dems will sue, gnash their teeth and bemoan the horrors of disinfranchised voters and I will laugh as the house of cards starts falling.
Screw ‘em and the horse they rode in on. This time their loss will be worse than the last election.
Thomas M. 4: yes, but alas the Evil Karl Rove, together with Dick Cheney, have been hiding out at an Undisclosed Location, using the Secret CIA Earthquake/Tsunami/Hurricane machine developed by Bush to harm
riot-pronepeace-loving moslems everywhere. They have turned it against the freedom loving (and free condom loving) people of the Deep Blue States to ruin Zero’s chance of reelection… so again, losing the election will not be Zero’s fault.
Bush and his Evil Republican Minions did it, and now the people of New York must suffer because Rich Republicans hate them.
Off topic, but now reports are saying “General Carter F. Ham … is leaving the Army.”

Whoops.
There are already allegations of election malfeasance, and now a hurricane.
To illustrate all this, I post this visual, which I am re-captioning “Making Off With The Election” just for this occasion.

OT, The MSM coverage of Sandy (frankenstorm) is absolutely killing me. I live in eastern NC and have lived through more than a few hurricanes several of them a lot stronger than Sandy. I have seen what happens when 25 feet of water cover small towns for a week at the time. I don’t remember more than a few minutes of coverage from the NY media other than the constant bull shit when New Orleans was flooded, very few pictures or coverage of the MILES of devastated Mississippi coastline. I feel for the folks with water in their homes and no power but it ain’t nothing new and it will happen again. Do like we have done for years, get your ass up, clean up, and fix your shit.
You can tell me I’m a bad person for saying this but its true as I see it.
And yes they will wail for months if the elections go off on time and the O loses, we got wet so we couldn’t vote!
This reminds me of the “Storm of the Century” when NYC got a FOOT of snow! Meanwhile, Sault Ste. Marie got 60 inches from the same storm. I think they called it a “two hour school delay”.
For people who live in homes in coastal areas further south of NY/NE this is a fairly routine experience. But for people in NY and further north a storm of this magnitude is rare – and when it hits landfall precisely at spring tide it’s rarer yet. These folks are married to the grid and have no resources for living without.
ironic 8: dang! I had it all wrong. Sandy isn’t the result of Karl Rove’s efforts with the CIA Un-natural Catastrophe Machine…
…it’s the brilliant scientists of Iran and Syria. They did it! These guys are so used to taking credit for terrorists attacks, they’re taking credit for hurricanes now too.

If POTUS had any balls at all he’d retaliate for them attacking us with Sandy by bombing the shit out of them. Now that would be an October Surprise worth having.
The news is now saying that “damage could top $20billion”.
It is absolutely sickening, because that number would probably be down around $5billion if not for all the environazi regulations and government red tape.
The toilet we call NYC is overflowing. Call a plumber, if you can find one that hasn’t already gone bankrupt.

I don’t have very much compasion for NY anymore.
I wonder what voting systems they use in those areas. Here we have a network centric system which confirms a voter (who self identifies–verbally tells address and maybe last 4 of SSN) and prints the ballot for that person, even if they are not in their home precinct. Very convenient for voters and saves trees but very dependent on the power grid and internets. And with no photo ID, subject to fraud.
10 years ago we had a nearly bombproof system where the machines could run for hours on internal batteries and the paper voter rosters were printed the day before for each precinct. Then the poll workers usually worked in their own neighborhoods and knew their neighbors so ID was less of an issue. Then the memory cartridges and results tapes were hand carried downtown for tallying.
I’ll try to make some popcorn in advance. . .
Conceivably, provisional or absentee ballots can be used if they were pre printed, though the ID issue and massive amount of extra supplies–envelopes, etc. would be challenging. Plus, the tallying work would be transferred to the counties at their central warehouses, etc. which would increase the time before results are reported.
My head hurts.
All that assumes that people can move around easily. . .
One of my co-workers brought this up:
Will the Democrats try to mess with members of The Electoral College?
Think about that one….
Here’s a cheery thought, and another reason to vote Romney too.
Complete article here, though I quoted most of it: http://hotair.com/archives/2012/10/30/a-romney-vote-means-rich-white-san-franciscans-cant-exercise-in-their-home-gyms/

Thomas M. 2: yep, but even if there was any chance of agreement, a good deal of the House and Senate membership is out campaigning to save their own
officesasses ….There. Better.
Well somebody has been thinking about it.
LotF 21: thanks. Actually, I thought of saying “asses,” but in an perhaps ill-conisdered moment of charity I said “offices” instead. It is good to have all options on the table.
mech 22: Finally I understand: Sandy is a Vast Right Wing Conspiracy to disrupt the otherwise orderly process of reelecting Democrats.
First, the election will go as planned. Barack Obama will be fired and he and his family will move to Hawaii. Only an act of congress can change that.
@20 Here is an excellent deconstruction of the Nate Silver.
http://hillbuzz.org/the-lefts-collective-mental-health-is-tied-to-nate-silver-his-oddball-predictions-are-all-thats-keeping-them-together-at-this-point-59680
“Nate Silver is lying to all these people and at the moment they love being lied to because it’s allowing them to avoid dealing with an unpleasant reality.”
^ 24: after Nov 6 (or more likely Thanksgiving when they actually sort this mess out), there will be mental health clinics set up for libs suffering from Election Disappointment Derangement Syndrome and Reality Intrusion Disorder.
Wasn’t there something like that done in Florida or somewhere after maybe the 2000 election?
Well, this is a fine mess. The whole northeast coast is ripe for election mischief. That said, two points:
One, no matter how much the libs gripe, and they will be the ones griping the most, anyone doubt me? It must be pointed out that the Republican voters are in the same boat (‘scuse the pun). It will likely not be easy for people of either flavor to get to the polls. So the odds are even.
“‘Cept we all know the Republicans are more resourseful when solving problems. They will get to the polls while the bulk of the Dems are standing around, whining and waiting for their free bus ride.
Two, most of the states in play were written off by Romney forever ago as not winable anyway. This won’t hurt Mitt one bit.
By the way, Dave, thanks for the hillbuzz Nate Silver ref. I had no clue who he was. (Been a while since I’ve been at hillbuzz, been meaning to go back, so that’s good too.)
Wish I could get a job having a cult* quote me while I lie to them. I would tell them things about pig shit and mushrooms.
* Wow, I think I just called the Democratic party a cult… [pauses for reflection] …well, whatever.
In November of 1864, the United states was in the middle of a SHOOTING WAR on its OWN SOIL that had been going on for over THREE YEARS! Yet the election HAPPENED.
So much for excuses.
The panicked libs have my sympathy, I felt the same way four years ago. The difference here being that their fears are misplaced, and mine were real.
#26 Mike G
Good point Mike. Chevy Volts short out in deep water, Repubs have 4X4 trucks.
Sandy favors Democrats.
After all, dem voters don’t actually have to be present to vote.
(What? Oh, right.)
… or even exist.
^ the mess will make covering up the “recounts” and “belatedly discovered missing ballot boxes” easier.
Don’t think it’s gonna save them though.
What a bunch of whiners. Hell, this country successfully held national election in the middle of a civil war, but a bit of wind and rain in NYC, OOOOOOh, it’s a DISASTER! Better postpone the election!
Pathetic.
^ But things were different during the Civil War. Slower, less reliable transportation, slower communication, less technology. Things are soooooooo much harder now.
This is a non-issue wrt to the presidential election since all those storm surged states get the same number of electoral votes regardless of the number of voters who show up. The popular vote does not count,
WRT electricity: go back to paper ballots that can be brought to another place to be read by a machine. Paper Trails!
I’m not prescientin spite of occasional hunches that pan out,
but I can almost hear the MSM plus a bazillion libtards & dumbocraps
screaming that Obozo & his gang losing the election is all the fault
of Sandy preventing them from getting to the polls, plus Romney
for not rescheduling the election later! Except for what MikeG (26)
said ’bout the repubs being in the same boat! I wonder how many
leftist MSM commentators will get almost hysterical denouncing
Romney for causing the storm!
