President Obama plans to ally himself with big business once again by using crony capitalist tactics to pass gun control just as he used them to pass Obamacare. In this case, Obama reportedly plans to make sure that the new gun control law benefits big businesses that sell weapons.

…could include rallying support from Wal-Mart and other gun retailers for measures that would benefit their businesses,” … “Wal-Mart and other major gun retailers may have an incentive to support closing a loophole that allows people to bypass background checks if they purchase firearms at gun shows or through other types of private sales,” … subsidies and lengthy government-protected monopolies

Think it’ll work?

If you shoot somebody in the face five times with a .38, and they’re expected to survive, somebody’s been doing something worng.

Hog has an interesting point but not one you will hear from the media. They bury this for two reasons. First, as in this case guns are used in self defense far more often than in committing crimes. Secondly, This lady fired six shots from a revolver and didn’t kill her attacker. This breaks the narrative that no one needs a semi-auto handgun that holds more than the six rounds provided by a revolver. Not everyone is Harry Callahan. Several women aren’t comfortable shooting a larger caliber. Just another Democrat attack on women.

The objective is not necessarily to kill but to stop the attack.
    It worked.

Personally, I recommend a shotgun at home, but still …
    Yeah, attagirl!

if you get five hits out of six with a handgun, someone is doing something right. just, as you say, not everything.

I wouldn’t mind if wally world didn’t sell guns. I occasionally buy ammo there if the price is right.

That would actually be good for the local gun shops to have the big mean chain store out of the gun business. But I don’t support taking the right to sell to a private party or at a gun show face to face. Registration of privately held firearms must be avoided at all costs.

Nobody knows about that .22 derringer I have. And they damn sure don’t know about my 1895 Broom Handle Mauser, or my 1912 Colt.

Which means that they also don’t know about those 1919 Browning AR-4′s that I keep around for shits and giggles. And a few other toys.

I’ve never told anybody about it, which means it’s still a secret.

And it wasn’t easy hauling those 14″ Naval Guns from the old Battleship Oregon up here and mounting them, and preparing them for combat, but fortunately the Mighty Columbia River is only about a mile away, so that helped a lot.

I’m pretty sure I can hit City Hall from here.

But there’s absolutely no way they know about the Nuke: Model A-1B, Uranium, that my mom stole when she worked as a waitress at the cafeteria at White Sands, NM back in ’45. She said she just drove it out of there in a truck that was sitting there. She didn’t know what it was, but it looked like it could have been valuable.

We found it when we were clearing out her place. It was covered in piles of junk. I tolt the other fambly that I would get rid of it, and that was good enough for them.

I was reminded the other day, that crony capitalism and fascism are just two sides of the same coin. Think about that next time you read about the latest NGO.

Here in Oregon, private sellers at gun shows have to do a NICS check, too – the Legislature “closed the gun-show loophole” years ago.

Unsurprisingly, it has had – to my knowledge – no effect on Oregon’s crime rate.

Turns out the people who mis-use firearms criminally for a living don’t go to gun shows to get guns (they have the black market!), and the sort who are Psycho Killer Types aren’t usually NICS-prohibited persons until after their rampage.

Sigivald, if I’M the one getting the background check, why do TPTB need the make, model and serial number of the firearm I’m buying?

Pretty much private sales are, by definition, of used guns.

    Walmart doesn’t sell used guns.

So they don’t really get much benefit from this idiot program.

Also, dealers usually *hate* doing private party transfers, because they lose the profit from a sale but still have to do the work. Believe it or not, in CA it’s *illegal* (or in violation of regulations in any case) to overcharge for transfers or refuse them as a policy (a condition of commercial FFL licenses), but it’s probably more common than not.

Like I said, though, I don’t blame them for not wanting to do it, it’s all work and no pay.

The whole idea has jack-all to do with crime, though, registration is to control *legal* owners, not criminals. If they wanted to control crime, they’d investigate and prosecute more than a few percent of refused NICS checks.

Why are we so afraid to say it?

Well Wal-mart will find out,if they throw in with Obama, just how little use I would have for my Wal-mart card.

I can buy my food at other places like Target and ammo, well I reload anyway. And Wal-marts idea of guns is, well, generic.

Well see what Prez Putz tries but just like when CHL first started here in Texas we boycotted any business that posted 30.06 signs. Well we can do that gain if big retailers toe the Obama line.

Buzz and Karl, that fascism thing grows ever more disturbing. The libtards like to label conservatives as “fascists” even though Mussolini and his pals were marxist “community organizers.” The deny that Nazism was a contraction of “National Socialism.” They adore Stalin and the rest of the mass-murdering maniacs. …but I heard a “Republican” Senator’s Chief of Staff call Thomas Jefferson a “fascist” because of his statements about citizens revolting against an oppressive government. It’s quite a mess, intellectual and moral, on top of the economic knife edge we are on. I fear it will get bloody, but I have confidence that Jefferson was right on the outcome.

Addressing mental illness is in the bill–so just wait and see— no it’s not– addressing the buying of “guns” and having a mental illness is— nothing to do with the care of a mentally ill person– sooooo— if you’ve ever been prescribed anything to do with an emotional problem forget about buying a “gun”.
