Here’s an interesting change in language from the NYT:
The French military assault on Islamist extremists in Mali escalated into a potentially much broader North African conflict on Wednesday when, in retribution, armed attackers in unmarked trucks seized an internationally managed natural gas field in neighboring Algeria and took at least 20 foreign hostages, including Americans.
…The gas-field attack… appeared to make good on a pledge by the Islamist militants who seized northern Mali last year to sharply expand their struggle against the West in response to France’s military intervention that began last week.
…In a statement sent to ANI, a Mauritanian news agency, they demanded the “immediate halt of the aggression against our own in Mali.”
…The statement, made by a group called Al Mulathameen, which has links to Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, the North African affiliate of Al Qaeda, claimed it was holding more than 40 “crusaders”

Al Mulathameen translates loosely to “The Masked Men Brigade”. Just another bunch of murderous Islamic Fascist Thugs.

This blends in to my earlier comment on another thread. ALL of North Africa is coming unglued and that will end we Infidels playing by Cricket Rules. ALL pale face nations will be forced to play by *pick-up Football rules* (…w/o helmets an shoulder pads!!!!!…)

it won’t break anything of value.
And none of the Euro nations has anything to logistically support much more than a battalion in such remote places.

Great timing for the sequestration hit on the military eh? Especially with our efforts already spreading troops and assets thin around the globe, and lots of equipment 20+ years old and tired from war, squeezed maintenance budgets and closed production lines.
OTOH, Commander Benghazi’s open support of the Muzzie Brotherhood and therefore al Qaeda, and his botching of so many relationships with erstwhile allies might result in his disinvitation to play. I’ll betcha if we could follow the bread crumbs, we’d find his fingerprints on some of the ‘insurgents’ weapons, esp. MANPADS.

Fox News had a segment today of about a dozen video clips of Obama telling us that the terrorists have been defeated; bin Laden is dead; &c.
Apparently, reports of their demise have been somewhat exaggerated.
