newsleak is a low capacity clip.

Not really a magazine anymore, even in the dead tree sense.

Thanks. When I thought of the magazines thing, I said out loud, “That’s … that’s f’n brillliant !” I think it’s original, but please lemme know if it ain’t (hate to take credit for something that can be attributed to faulty memory). Had a hard time coming up with ideas to do it graphically, but stumbling across the Newsweek cover answered everything. Yeah, I love it when the obvious and the obvious come together for a blind-squirrel-quality twofer.

“Fire” away, Doug. You have my full confidence. I just have an alternate understanding when I hear “clips” these days.

Doug, is that the stripper clip* of for a .30 Mauser pistol?

Wonder how that new, hastily thrown together NY law crap political stunt will treat that nifty “antique” … or the new S&W 8 and 10 shot .22 revolvers and the new 8 shot N-frame .357s for that matter. Not that there’s a single Democrat politician anywhere (nor as many Republican ones as you’d hope) who give a shit.

    * These days I am coming to think that the term “stripper clip” should only be applied to video segments of exotic dancers doing their jobs. This at least would be a concept that most Democrats could grasp.

That’s nice Doug! Hollywood has been lucky so far to that they haven’t had their full auto cameras taken away. It was bad enough when they had hand cranked ones a la the Gatling gun. Let them take one picture at a time and load them in the Kinetoscope!

Ironic – You beat me to it. Yes, I’m pretty sure that’s a stripper clip for an early C96 “broomhandle” Mauser, in 7.63×25 with LRN bullets.

And that pistol is completely banned in NY, as is the Hammerli SP20 target pistol for the same reason: the magazine is not inside the pistol grip. I’m sure the AR15 pistols are also banned for that reason. Of course, the C96 is also banned under GCA 1934 as an SBR for it’s wooden holster that attaches to form a shoulder stock, and the fully automatic models are illegal as well, unless you’ve got your Class III.

How about that? An easily concealable, “high powered” pocket sized modern Assault Weapon … designed about 1893.

Yeah, you’re probably right. I didn’t check the cartridge, I just grabbed a photo I liked.

Interesting side note on the auto-broomhandle.
The Imperial Chinese police used ‘em, and they held it gangsta style, because the recoil would take the muzzle across the line of the enemy rather than up away from the enemy. They also used the old point-shoot style which laid the index finger along the frame while pulling the trigger with the middle finger. It takes almost no training to shoot with combat accuracy that way. The US Army abandoned that technique when they adopted the 1911, because the index finger could push on the end of the slide lock pin, and as the slide moved back the pistol could become disabled.

Well, whatdayaknow? Or more like, I didn’t know that.

In my copious spare time, I got me some experimenting to do, though not, apparently, with the 1911.

^ arthritis killed me on derringers years ago; now I’m wondering if there was a simple solution….

(as long as my pointy finger didn’t reach beyond the end of the snubby little barrel, of course)

Oh! A dreadful little pun: if you’re point shooting via Doug’s antigue method above, does that mean you’re Giving The Bad Guy The Finger?
