Yeah, it was only a matter of time until they hustled President Mom Jeans onto a range somewhere, shoved a shotgun in his hands, and told him “Just pull that little hook thingy on the bottom!”

While I admit that I don’t know much about this sport, it seems to me that if your intent is to blast something out of the sky, shouldn’t you be pointing your boom-stick thingy towards the sky?

Teh obvious answer for the model in this picture would be an overcompensator though I’ve never seen such a modification on a shotgun. ..

Ever fired a shotgun sitting that high in your shoulder? My guess is he is going to Suck at golf for a week. Too many things wrong with that photo, but I really do hope he has the requisite shoulder bruise to go with his know nothing stance.

You’d think a White House photographer would know enough about their job to stage the shot on THE OTHER SIDE of the Precedent so as to get his face in the shot.
Sort of like why we all despise Al Gore. I mean he lies, we know he’s lying, but it’s painfully obvious he’s just not any good at it. Bill Clinton, on the other hand, now day-um! THERE’s a man that could lie!

It would be interesting to go back and check his whole schedule for that day. On the other hand, assuming this White House is lying is a *pretty* safe bet.
I completely agree with the observations that there is no
visible signs of recoil, the lack of which might suggest
the use of blanks. 2. As others have mentioned, only
1 choke? Add to that the fact that a man who claims to
be a skeet shooter, he is aiming low which might suggest
a stationary target.
I would also like to add a few observations; I have shot a
number of shotguns. His stance looks wrong. Shotguns
have a reputation for fairly heavy recoil. Most people
familiar with shotguns tend to lean forward a little when
shooting.
While I am not familiar high end shotguns, I question the
fact that smoke is shooting upwards a few inches behind
the muzzle, unless the barrel is “comped.”
If so, it is further proof that the president is a pussy because
real men are not afraid of recoil!
Compensated or not, there is no visible signs of recoil. I
could have put my Starrett precision machinist level on that
barrel. The muzzle should have risen several inches.

I was gonna skip the style critique; but, hey, nit-picky pilin’ on is what I do.
Yes, he is pointed low, but that would be appropriate for skeet station #1 aiming at the low house.
It would also be appropriate, if you’re just bustin’ some newbie practice targets. Hey, y’gotta start somewhere. No foul, there; but that ain’t skeet skeet.
However, there is only one extended choke (in the upper bbl), so he must be shooting trap, not skeet. In skeet, you encounter double targets, where you fire both bbls before reloading, and you wouldn’t normally fire the lower bbl without an extended choke like the upper bbl has, here. In trap, you fire once during your turn to shoot, so you only need one choke for one bbl.
He’s holding his support arm (his right) underneath as a rifle shooter would, not out to the side as a shotgunner would (need horizontal movement and control for moving targets, not a rifle’s rigid support for stationary targets).
He’s standing like a novice, back a bit balancing the weight of the gun. His stance should be a bit forward to control recoil. Yeah, he’s just fired, so the recoil would knock him back a bit, but it wouldn’t have, if he’d been in the proper forward stance.
The butt is a bit high on the shoulder, but beginners won’t have practiced the mount enough to get it just right every time. Could be, though, that he’s using a rifle mount which gets the comb up enough for a cheek lock. Dunno, really, need an expert, here. I ain’t. I just shoot a bunch and teach a little.
It’s hard for a rifle shooter to shoot shotgun without a lot of habit-changing. They are very different techniques, once you get into it.

Since he’s not wearing a shell/drop bag, he’s either shooting trap (with a stand to hold a box of shells just off camera), or somebody’s followin’ him around the skeet range handin’ him shells and pickin’ up his hulls.

That off-axis plume is from the ported bbl (small holes in the upper side of the last few inches of the bbl allow an upward jet of gas to push the muzzle downward, thereby counteracting some of the muzzle rise from recoil). It helps you get back on a second target quicker. You see it on handguns, too. Same mission.

^ Porting* affects the rise of the muzzle, not so much the push into your shoulder. Since the SKS affects your cheek (and a lovely cheek it is), you might not be holding your cheek in a good “weld” against the stock (so it bumps). Also try pulling the rifle back into your shoulder more firmly. That will reduce the recoil’s bump and assure you have a good grip.

* Not to be confused with flash-hiders which don’t do much for recoil or compensators which direct some of the gases rearward to counteract the rearward bump (e.g. a 50BMG).

Doug, the other function of a compensator, at least on a .50 BMG, is to direct blast and sound back at the spotter, thus providing him incentive to get promoted to trigger.

Despite this planned photo op, and all the discussion by myself and others, let’s not lose sight of the fact that while campaigning for Illinois senate, this POS stated that he didn’t think the citizens should be allowed to have any firearms.

That’s an extended choke. It sticks out a bit so you can screw it into/out’a the muzzle with your fingers. The bottom bbl probably has a flush choke which requires a tool (you’d never fire a shotgun with a choke removed, since it would honk-up the fine threads at the muzzle).

A skeet shooter would have extended chokes in both bbls,
but a trap shooter might have just one, since he’s only using one bbl during the game.
