If the DoT is forced thru the sequester [kinda like a sieve] it will lose 0.012% of its $$$. That’s $1B out of $79B.
They say that means they cannot fund the currently funded TSA feel-coppers. Because PANIC. Also Rethuglicannnz.
Republicans point out that last summer they passed two bills that would substitute targeted cuts for the sequester. Despite GOP scare talk, the Senate Democrats refused to take up the bills because they did things like tightening food-stamp eligibility instead of hiking taxes. The GOP, which finally agreed to raise taxes on the rich in January to retain low Bush-era tax rates for everyone else, said that it won’t raise taxes again — that it’s time to cut spending. With no hint of irony, White House spokesman Jay Carney complained Friday that it was hard for Democrats to compromise with an opposition that refuses to bend an inch.

It is a common mistake, which I made at the start of this financial fiasco my ownself, which is the only reason I caught the misplaced decimal point.
The sheer size of the real numbers being used (billions and trillions) is so difficult to relate to that fractions and percentages become blurry.
Some doofus Democrat said that the problem is Republicans won’t compromise their principles and their promises to their constituents? Not a surprise; people say dumb stuff all the time.
The problem is that the press reports it as if it were actual information and all the people on the left who aren’t actual confirmed communists, you know, open-mouthed, gap-toothed morons, with or without advanced degrees in stuff that does’t require math, suck it up as if they are receiving heaven’s final mercy beamed down for the blessed salvation of the just and righteous.
