Polls are Tools

their point is to create public opinion

Also see: Preference Cascade — when people who believed they were alone in their beliefs who suddenly find out that they are part of a much larger group.

The opposite is also true. When people are sure of the sensibleness of their views then are swamped by media with “poll results” telling them they are out of step with, say, “two-thirds of all Californians polled.”

The dumb ones [Oh, please! -Joan Rivers] fail to notice that “all Californians polled” may be 12 people and the “two-thirds” is 8. When it’s repeated all over the news for several days, the drumbeat

Two-thirds of California voters polled in a phone survey released Thursday supported legislation requiring schools to serve breakfast after the school day begins.

That’s .00322% of the state’s population. …counted population.

Only 58 percent of Central Valley residents similarly backed the plan.

“Only” ??!?

The bill would, should it pass, require schools where 60 percent to 80 percent of students are eligible for free or reduced price meals to offer breakfast after the school day begins.

Schools where at least 80 percent of students are eligible for free or reduced price meals have to offer free breakfast after the bell to all students.

IOW, parents are no longer required to do the most basic job of parenting: to feed their children. In fact, unless they want the kidz to do a double breakfast, they are prevented from doing that job.

The State™ will take care of that, along with “edjukating” them, teaching them social mores and moral structures. And how to end up in the two-thirds of the poll that agrees with State™.

hurray.

    These “parents” are not parents.

They’re the same ones who see school as “free daycare”.

Parents who don’t have to feed or care for their kids can produce as many Income Tax credits as they like: a bump in the “Earned” Income Credit; a bump in the Child Tax Credit.

Thousands of dollars in tax “refunds” against no taxes withheld in the first place.

I don’t mean to be callous here, but do the idiots Progs of California have any idea how even those breakfasts are going to get paid for, much less how to pay for the longer term consequences of all their “caring” legislation?

Oh: it will result in yet more “voters” who will just vote themselves more Prog legislators who will vote them more money. That’s how you pay for things: vote for it.

At last, after drinking all night, doing drugs and making another welfare check, I can lay in the bed in the morning and let somebody else feed my current welfare checks.

Why don’t they just go for the full boarding school thing?
Then, kids can be raise by A Village™, just as Her Grace commanded.

And given how many “educators” qualify as Village Idiots™, it all works out.

(I seem to remember a similar discussion some months ago when some pregnant 15-year-old was bitchin’ about the quality of the school meals, and her brain-dead father was whining about the school’s responsibility to feed his snowflake properly. Man, these parasites never learn that it IS possible to kill the host.)

It all works out fine until the people who vote for a living outnumber the people who work for a living.
