sticks and stones may break my bones but words

The ex-Marine who organized an anti-Muslim rally outside the Islamic Community Center of Phoenix Friday evening said he’s going into hiding after receiving several death threats.

“This is proof tyranny is in America,” said Jon Ritzheimer, revealing he’s come under siege since taking to Facebook to organize the event.

Up to 500 protesters gathered in 100-degree heat — some clutching assault rifles, American flags and placards — in the latest flashpoint in the U.S. anti-Islam movement.

Ritzheimer planned the protest, billed as “Freedom of Speech Rally,” in response to an ISIS-inspired attack outside a controversial Prophet Muhammad cartoon contest May 3 in Texas.

Two gunmen were shot dead by SWAT team members as they attempted to storm the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, Texas, an event organized by anti-Islamic activist Pamela Geller.

But now Ritzheimer claims he’s been targeted by terrorists.

I’m having to sell my house. My family is going into hiding,” an armed Ritzheimer, flanked by burly men wearing “F— Islam!” T-shirts, told reporters at the rally. “They’re calling for lone wolves to behead me. That’s terrorism right here in America.”

Why aren’t the police militarized at armed #PHxMosque hate rally, yet armed with rifles/mil vehicles at unarmed peaceful brutality rallies?

Um… weren’t the ISIS Religious Freedom Fighters™ shot by a traffic cop?

    From the comments:

“But it is un-American to single out any religion for persecution. And thats exactly what these protestors were doing. They wish to make it impossible for Muslims to practice their religion just like Islamic State is doing with Christians in the Middle East.”

Not merely complete and utter nonsense, but full on depraved moral equivalency.

Did the demonstrators block access to the mosque?
Did the demonstrators interrupt services at the mosque?
Did the demonstrators trespass on the mosque?
Did the demonstrators damage the mosque?
Did the demonstrators hurt anyone attending the mosque?
Did the demonstrators even threaten anyone seeking to attend the mosque?

With a string of ‘no’s in response to those questions, then the only possible thing those demonstrators could be “guilty” of doing to make it “impossible” for Muslims to “practice their religion” is not being passive victims of the threats made by Muslims, which you admit occurred, to kill them for “blasphemy”.
No religion in the United States has the right to “freely practice” their religion by murdering others, no matter how much Muslims may wish otherwise.

“Celebrating free speech is one thing. Using it to undermine one of the fundamental principles of the Constitution is quite another.”

    Yes it is.
You should stop doing it, using your freedom of speech to defame people for exercising theirs, in support of people who would use freedom of religion to murder people for exercising their freedom of speech.

In response to the twitchy feeds about no national guard there. Could it be because the the folks you are complaining about are not what I would call “armed”, they are prepared.
Also I see them carrying American flags, not rolls of looted toilet paper. And it appears the national guard was not needed. Hmm, peaceful legal citizens exercising their first & second amendment rights.

M’kay, this might not be very popular, but being this is about free speech and all, I get to say it. Everyone here is “pro-free speech,” and sometimes practicing that right can put you in harm’s way. I don’t believe you should back down and surrender that right even when threatened with harm to you and yours. (Easier said than done, I know) But there is such a thing as unnecessarily putting yourself and loved ones and risk by “poking the bear.” Some of these groups are not doing anyone any favors by taunting Muslims. If it continues, there will be more bloodshed.

War with radical Islam in the U.S. might be inevitable, but I see no reason to hurry it along.

    Not violent.
    Excellent !

That means that the training of American Islamists has begun.
Lesson: This is America, so you don’t get to kill kafir.
(PS: We might even defend ourselves.)

Demonstrate and whine all you want, but you. do. not. get. to. kill. us.

This training exercise needs to be done more.
Your religion gets insulted, you don’t kill. Rinse, repeat.

Avoiding confrontation out of fear of trouble only reinforces the value of making violent threats,
which inevitably leads to either surrender or escalating threats and violence.

This might help wean them from their knee-jerk totalitarian theocratic barbarity
and to grow out of their brat phase, just as other religions have.
Religion is a personal thing, not a government thing.
Understand that, and we’ll get along just fine.

America is not like other places, especially the oppressive hellholes some people came from.
We’re a free republic. Tolerance is a two-way street. Deal with it or become very unwelcome.

If you come here to change our way of life by threats and violence, you’re an invader.
If you support that, you’re a traitor.

“Free speech” is about tolerating uncomfortable speech.
You don’t need “free speech” for comfortable speech.

But it is un-American to single out any religion for persecution. And that’s exactly what these protestors were doing. They wish to make it impossible for Muslims to practice their religion — just like Islamic State is doing with Christians in the Middle East.

Awe, c’on, in the first place that’s not what they are doing, unless by “Muslims practicing their religion” you mean killing infidels. But really, if they were “mak[ing] it impossible for Muslims to practice… just like Islamic State is doing with Christians,” then they’d have to be beheading Muslim men, raping their wives, and turning their daughters into sex slaves.

Any of that happened yet? And don’t you dare equate holding a peaceful rally with murder and degradation.

By the way, Doug (5), I completely agree with your point.

(First, I thought there was no such thing as an EX-Marine ….)

Second, while I support what this guy did and his motivations for it, the death threats should not have come as any sort of surprise. Which means he should have taken some pre-emptive measures. Like maybe making sure the local imam(s) know that they are personally responsible for his safety (IYKWIMAITTYD…..).

    In response to #4 MikeG:

You stated that “war with radical Islam in the U.S. may be inevitable….” – and I think that statement alone is why these groups are doing this. Let’s face the facts, the violent political ideology which is Islam has been ushered into the West by dhimmi politicians who have bought into multiculturalism and the very own taqiyya of Islam. It wasn’t that long ago that we were still squeegeeing the blood off the streets of NYC when George W. Bush called Islam “the religion of peace.”

Some of us feel the West has one chance and that is to expose the lies, the facade of Islam. The European countries were fed the same bullshit, and they nodded their heads and played the game and woke up to 10 to 20% of their population becoming Muslim and now women in Sweden dye their hair black to minimize their chances of rape and the government of England denies the basic freedoms of assembly and protest in order to “not poke the beast.”

If the American people don’t wake up to what Islam really, truly is, it’s over…not inevitable, but over. The fact that a 1.5% of our population has effectively begun to filter our 1st amendment rights ought to be seen as proof that something far more sinister resides amongst than a “bear.”

WHO called for your beheading, Marine? He has a face and a name, and has threatened you. What is the proper response?

    That’s right.

At the first sign of a possible mortal threat,
    go through your self-defense checklist.
If that threat is credible and imminent …

They do not get to kill others to defend their so-called “honor.”
They do not get to kill others for “heresy.”
They do not get to kill others to force submission.

If you dismiss my right to life, you cannot expect me to recognize your right to life.

Make them aware of this fundamental principle.
Force them to face the issue, and make them decide how to respond.
Admonish or punish bad behavior, and reward good behavior.
    Rinse, repeat.

It’s how you train animals and brats.

We have no problems with peaceful Muslims.
We have serious problems with murderers, tyrants, and thugs.
    Everybody needs to understand that.
