Because It’s Too Hard To Ratify

Asked by Rep. Reid Ribble, R-Wis., “Why is (the Iran nuclear agreement) not considered a treaty?” — which would mean 67 senators would have to agree before the Iran deal would take effect — former Sen. Kerry’s startling and telling reply was:

“Well, congressman, I spent quite a few years trying to get a lot of treaties through the United States Senate, and frankly it’s become physically impossible. That’s why. Because you can’t pass a treaty anymore. And it’s become impossible to, you know, schedule. It’s become impossible to pass.”

(image purloined from Teh Interwebz)

Oh, I get it. You see, because he is soooooooo smart, and everyone who disagrees with him is sooooooooo stoooopid, the Constitutional requirement for Senate ratification is null and void.

You know what? Budgets and laws are hard to pass, too. It would be sooooooo much easier if we just dissolved Congress and let the President rule by decree.
After all, it’s for the Children™.

Maybe I shouldn’t give them any ideas.

    Thanks for posting that, Fawkes.
Your “Maybe I shouldn’t give them any ideas” problem is a cat that’s already out’a the bag.

Here’s another article that includes a salient point:

[H]eritage Foundation research fellow Steven Groves wrote Tuesday, “So a historically important nonproliferation agreement was created as a measly executive agreement not based on principle or standard practice – but solely for reasons of expedience.”

“This is not a good reason to avoid Senate scrutiny on important international agreements, particularly deeply flawed agreements such as the Iran nuclear deal.”

Groves noted that administrations have managed to get the Senate to ratify treaties – including on more than 160 occasions during the George W. Bush administration.

Kerry himself, as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, had succeeded in getting the Senate to approve the New START arms reduction treaty with Russia in 2010.

“Therefore the Senate is clearly capable of passing treaties,” Groves concluded, “just not unpopular ones like the U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea, the U.N. Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, or apparently the Iran nuclear deal.”

    Kerry is a lying SoS.

No Nobel Peace Prize for you.

(What? No, dunno why this dimwit is still on the payroll. Maybe to make Hillary look good.)

Governing a constitutional republic is sooo haaaaard. *sniffle*

Yeah, that’s one of the main friggin’ purposes of the Constitution.

Dictatorship, on the other hand, is wayyy easier — even arrogant fools like Progs can do stuff.

If I were in Congress, I’d start immediate impeachment proceedings against Kerry.
    (What? Yeah, among others.)

What I’d like to post here is a link to a vid clip of the scene from the 1980s TV series Amerika, in which, having taken over America, the Soviets decide that the now puppet U.S. Congress is a superfluous nuisance and has a Spetsnaz squad machine-gun the entire congress right there in the Capitol building.

    Unfortunately, I can’t find it.

It’s not the only definitive icon from a bygone era that is remarkably hard to find.

You can still get a copy of the Constitution of the United States though: the administration has, at great cost, had the entire thing printed on Charmin for use at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

^ ^^ The clip you mention was available on YouTube just a few months ago. It has strangely found its way down the Memory Hole. Teh Gloooooooogle has kept the miniseries in its entirety (well, broken up into 13 parts), but I’ve been unable to find the specific scene, either.

I heard this audio today but when you see the Kerry and Cotton video it’s plain that Kerry is a complete idiot and should not be helping to run this country in any capacity.

The slimy MFCS bastard knows he couldn’t get such a treaty through the senate.

How much aid and comfort does it take before it becomes treason? Is a billion dollars enough?

Have the Democrats and the Muslim/Homo media neutered the whole damn Comgress?

Does Obama have them all under duress like the Chief Justice?

Does anyone even give a tinker’s damn if this country is nuked by the goat bangers?

If you noticed he couldn’t look Cotton in the eye while he questioned him. When he did he had this evil how dare you ask me those questions don’t you know who I am????? He had the Obama White House answers they all have— I don’t know I’ll have someone look into it—————— they never know a smidgen and there is never a smidgen of evidence. Shouldn’t the word smidgen be banned it must be biased for something.

Yep, there is that, but I figured Captain Ego wouldn’t be sharing the stage with others. In any case, it was still Congress getting flamed by foreigners, be they Spetznaz or Martians.

OT: Illegal kills two, wounds one in Montana

NYT: “The shooting took place on a road within the Crow Indian Reservation, the complaint said. Federal authorities have jurisdiction because it involves a non-American Indian suspect in a crime against American Indians.”

Uh, no, the Crow Reservation is a sovereign nation. The trial belongs in a Tribal Court.

^ Federal authorities have jurisdiction because it involves a non-American Indian suspect in a crime against American Indians.

Aaaaand if it had involved an American Indian shooting other American Indians, it would have been treated like a Chicago weekend – nothing to see here, folks, move along …..

(Good thing it didn’t happen on the Jim Crow Reservation, otherwise Sharpton and the rest would be swinging into action.)

    I read he was legal
The man accused of killing two Good Samaritans who tried to help him on a Montana roadside was encountered by immigration authorities earlier this year after a burglary arrest, but was unable to be deported because he had already gotten legal status, federal authorities said this week.

Well, sure, I get that (and am mostly all for it); but now I’m wondering where the Russians recruit their Spetznaz….

…also, if that really is Obama in disguise (or maybe he sent VJay do his dirty work for him?), then maybe they used the 100-to-1 shrink ray to get his head inside that Martian disguise?
