Dictionary.com’s word of the year is “xenophobia.”
…Its roots are in two Greek words — “xenos,” meaning “stranger or guest,” and “phobos,” meaning “fear or panic,”
ABCnooz comments:
…it’s clear that in contentious 2016, fear of “otherness” bruised the collective consciousness around the globe. [no clues there…]
The Brexit vote, police violence against people of color [no mention of the lethal violence of “people of color” against police and other citizens? hm…], Syria’s refugee crisis, transsexual rights and the U.S. presidential race were among prominent developments that drove debate — and spikes in lookups of the word, said Jane Solomon, one of the dictionary site’s lexicographers.
The spikes in lookups may have been due to Proggies tossing the word about like a pup with a new toy.
I would like to suggest a new Word Of The Year:
Its roots are in two Greek words — “xenos,” meaning “stranger or guest,” and philia meaning “abnormal appetite or liking for eg necrophilia.”
That peculiar hipster/Proggie idea that any idea or custom Not Invented Here is Precious, cute, and to be preserved above any idea or custom or tradition from one’s own culture or parents: Xenophilia.

Shiverz, quiverz, and unpure thoughts, Headmissy.

May I suggest ‘Xenovexia.’ Neither love or hate but maybe just annoyance.
