ol’ Jerry I smell mustard Brown just guaranteed his Bullshitte Train will continue. Not to become an actual train [which would -- under ideal circumstances -- transport people from one end of the state 2/3 of the way to the other, taking twelve times as long and costing multiples more than flying or driving] but a lively source of payoffs to pals.

That’s because the only source of steady money for high speed rail construction is from the auction of credits in the greenhouse bartering system of trading money for the ability to pollute.

[NB by "pollute" they mean "producing stuff that isn't a pollutant in any but a political sense" ]

Yep — 25% of the Cap ‘n’ Trade ponzi scheme goes to the Bullshitte Train. yippie.

The rest raises the price of gas [by 11 cents to a coupla bucks, depending on the way ya figure] for the rural drivers hardest hit by the recession caused by chasing all the business out of the state. Even if one buys the GlobalWorms idea [silliness as there has been zero warming for almost two decades - but whatever] what sense does it make to gut the economy that might have to respond to all the dire things predicted? It takes Big Money to move airports and water ports out of the way of “rising oceans,” to make dams to hold water to raise food, to provide air conditioning for those 120° Christmas Day Dinners for the homeless, etc.

again: yay, government control!

I remember years ago telling anyone who would listen to me that any kind of passenger only train system was a waste of time and would only serve to fatten the wallets of the Liberal fat-cats. But did they listen to me? NOOOO!

Only good thing to come from this, if it ever actually gets running, is that you won’t get Ann Coultered for your seat, as there’s no chance it will EVER get over-booked.

But… but… the train thing is so, you know, Eurooo !

    Dang idea’s so retro, it’ll prob’ly be coal-powered, too.

Besides, there may be an alternative future.
This is the 21st-C, after all.
