As expected, you all stepped up and supported me and Colonel Jerry with more than enough to take care of the necessary tasks and as promised, I will be sending the remaining funds to Flying Leatherneck Aviation Museum & Historical Foundation on our behalf. There’s about $600 left in the account. I came upon the following page while looking up the location to send our donation and thought this would be a fabulous way to donate partial funds:

Our Walk of Memories memorial brick program is the ideal way to honor and remember a loved one, a special memory, or to say thank you.

Envisioned by our founder, Brigadier General Jay Hubbard, USMC (Retired), the bricks are permanently displayed in the Memorial Park at the Flying Leatherneck Aviation Museum. The park has been designed to grow with the number of bricks displayed and will always be lovingly maintained.

The memorial bricks are personalized with three lines of text you specify. It is then added to the walkway within a month of the Foundation receiving the engraved brick. A small, 1×3 inch miniature of the brick is also engraved and sent to you as your keepsake. The bricks are $300 each and provide significant support to the Flying Leathernecks, while preserving your special memories.

Since this is and always has been a group effort, I thought I’d present this to you all and get some suggestions as to the text we should have placed on the brick. It allows 3 lines of 20 characters per line…

Of course if you all don’t think this is a good idea, I’m open to other suggestions. It’s not written in stone:)

    Nice thought.
    Not sure what’s appropriate.
All’s I can think of is “This thing flies like a brick!”

Gotta contain a reference to the “world’s greatest fighter pilot”.

(Isn’t that how he – accurately – described himself?)

$600 so that buys 2. 1 for flying and 1 for crashing.
    (What, too soon?)
