“The U.S. is a bit of an outlier in that every other sort of developed Western democracy does address hate speech in some way,” Butt said,
And people outside the insane asylum appear crazy to the inmates. It seems to me that Butt wants to venture down the slippery slope to 1984 rightspeak and Stalinist thugs carting off free speaking people in the middle of the night.
Butt is a butt[add ending to suit]

^ Yeah, jackasses want us to emulate the rest of the World (well, some enlightened part, wherever that is), when the whole friggin’ point of America is that it’s not like the rest of the World and hasn’t been since 1776.

There are tens of thousands of words in the American language, and our First Amendment reminds me we can use any of them whenever we want. It does not prevent the use of those words from causing discomfort for the perpetually butt-hurt people.

If any of us were to look back in our personal past, we will likely find times when we used certain words that “polite society” simply doesn’t use, and we may now regret it. But how far back do we have to go before some sort of Statute of Limitations kicks in? Can’t we assume that the words that used to make us giggle as four- or five- year olds, or feel like grown adults when we were in our teens, have finally slipped out of our vocabulary with the passing of time?

Time is a learning process, and most of us are better now than we used to be.

It’s gettin a little linguistically claustrophobic ’round the world. Glad I live where being a verbal dumbass [for the purposes of comedy, literary reasons, or just plain cussedness freedom issues] isn’t illegal.
