    The Brits learned nothing, they gave up the muskets used to resist tyrants.
    Well, the British people learned nothing. The Brit gov’t learned that armed people are dangerous to tyrants.

    The Declaration of Independence was actually ratified by the Colonies on 2 July. It was published two days later. So Americans celebrate not the date of the Declaration, but the date of its dissemination.
