moral conundrum + typhoid fever edition

Sounds like Reckless Negligence to me:

Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg and Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas proposed that California create a legal “right to shelter” rule for people who live on the street. …a mandate that requires communities to provide shelter for homeless people…

…In California, 90,000 of the 130,000 homeless people live unsheltered, Steinberg said.

…wait for it

The proposal requires unsheltered people to move indoors when offered a place to go. Steinberg said they will work with lawmakers to figure out how to enforce that.

“I don’t think there’s anything wrong with saying that living on the streets is not a civil right, that you have to come indoors,” he said. “How we enforce that, work on that, will be for debate and discussion and a lot of good work ahead.”

Yep a “legal right to shelter” paired with a legal obligation to live indoors. Forced housing. Are forced feeding and medication next? Add in forced labor and …

Here’s another take on the dangers of ‘homelessness’:

Dr Drew lays out the problems in LA. Coming to your streets soon.
[I'd'a embedded it but ... they don't do that anymore? or ... in a hurry... apologies]

“It’s not a housing problem; it’s a mental health crisis.”

“If you’re a drug addict and you know it’s warm and you’re not gonna get hassled and you can steal and not even get hit for a misdemeanor… You can steal $950 a day and not be hit for anything. …”

“…one word: rats. Plague is endemic in the area … typhus … measles … tuberculosis … typhoid fever …”

“I can’t live in a city where people allow other people to die in the streets.”

“We can go after politicians for reckless negligence … clinging to policies that are directly endangering human beings.”

“Not my fault” writ large and an exemplary case of Forgotten Man politics, where A&B decide X (the homeless in this case) has been forgotten needs help, with C, not A&B, paying for it. C (that’s us) are the actual Forgotten Man, not X as Dems would have us believe.

as long as Californians keep electing the mentally ill, the problem will continue.

I imagine a day when all the politicians, and homeless, are banished to the desert with one canteen of water….and a crew to film the carnage.

Jerry Pournelle’s Codominium is where Citizens live in welfare islands while Taxpayers pay for security to keep them away.. The two wings of the Unity Party run things.
That it’s looking more likely wouldn’t bother me so much if we had colonies around the local galaxy. But we’re stuck here watching it.

Hmmm … this whole going-back-to-the-moon thing is starting to make a lot more sense now.

(But then, so does that B Ark idea…)

Ah, California, where “We must make more laws to make you freeeee!”

Also, observing the 50th anniversary of Mary Joe Kopechne taking one for the team and single-handedly destroyed Edward Kennedy’s presidential aspirations.

I understand she gets a one-day pass to Hell once a year and arrives with a blowtorch and a pair of pliers.

    “Officer, arrest that man!”

“I offered him shelter and he refused!”

I wonder when California will pass an ordinance forcing people with homes to take in homeless people?

typhus … measles … tuberculosis … typhoid fever …” – all diseases that, until lately, had been eliminated by “first world” sanitation and vaccinations. Can hardly wait until bubonic plague makes the scene.
