  1. Why doesn’t this civic minded, kind hearted woman just invite the homless to go live with her? I wonder.

  2. I don’t know how they’ll clean up their room,
but my many visits to SF in the ’70s and walks through Haight-Ashbury with its stinky-hippie panhandlers seem, well… quaint in comparison

  3. However,
I think Step-1 should be to quit advertising yourself as a bum-friendly community.
    How about:
We treat bums like stray dogs. We catch ‘em, take ‘em to a shelter, wash and de-louse ‘em, vet ‘em, and put ‘em up for adoption.

(What? Uh, no, haven’t yet thought about what happens if nobody adopts ‘em.)

  4. DougM, I’d add “spay and neuter” to the list.

  5. Have you ever looked into the empty, avaricious eyes of a tweeker digging through garbage for “treasures?” Or a human being — what was once one — sprawled unconscious in the middle of a city sidewalk, pants full, tie-off in place, spike in limp hand. Look into their eyes and you will see residents of Dante’s Circles.

    This, very much this.

  6. It gets better

I would think that a fleet of water trucks doing street and sidewalk cleaning 2-5 times a day 24/7 would be useful here. Nice pine scent, too

  7. My oldest son lives in Boise. He works for one of the more important companies headquartered there. Moving from the Oregon coast to Boise, he noticed that “the whole hippie thing” was being controlled there. Unlike, here.

Please note, that this was a judicial process. And involved the pristine court of the Ninth Circuit.

  9. ^Doug & ^Rickn8or: Good starts. I’d also like to see them chipped – it’d make identification fairly quick after someone stumbles across a dead addict.
