  1. I’m always amused by the idea of space junk as this ongoing danger in space. The area around the earth’s atmosphere is ridiculously large. You’ve got more chance of finding a golf ball dropped at random somewhere in the Sahara desert while walking across it that the odds of anything hitting anything else in the earth’s orbit. Even if you assumed that every manmade object in space was at the same precise exact altitude, the odds still remain microscopic.

  2. ^ Probability of an impact is small, but non-zero.
    Damage could be catastrophic,
and the threat will exist for years

It falls into the category: “Oh, please don’t do that”

  3. The US Navy, Air Force, and the British Navy have been poking at Crimea for months now, playing chicken with the Russian Navy and airforce. The US Navy is trying to get Bulgaria and Romania to let them have a Black Sea naval base.

This is Putin saying “Nice multi-billion dollar space satellites you got there … be a shame if something were to happen to them.”
