  3. Don’t forget the Buffet rule when restoring your buffet. After staining, apply wax and buff it and buff it and buff it.

    Comment by Wollf — April 18, 2012 @ 11:50 am

  4. If you buff a buffet, should you do it in the buff, eh?

  5. An ashtray an a coaster and you are good to go!!!! Formal? A Zippo lighter…

  6. Vigorous buffing builds core strength and… makes you buff.

Not, of course, that you need buffing, but how can one ever be too buff?

    Fab piece by the way.

What are you thinking of doing with the finish color? You’ve got some repairs there that might be a challenge to match with the original wood.

  7. Nice sideboard. But matching the veneer on old furniture is not simple. Most of what’s available is plastic, the rest doesn’t match the old, faded veneer. Result: cheeseball.

Go ahead, ask me how I know this.

  8. Leave it like it is. Bare chested is the way to go.

  9. This is going to be a crazy painted piece for my crazy new dream house. For the tee vee/monitor/computer. It was JRs grandmothers and was in decent ok shape but just ick. So we cut off all the scrolly things and well….you’ll see…:)

If I ever get the fucking keys……….

STILL waiting for the final step…county recording.

Sigh. I better get them before I’m done.

  10. I guess every bare chest has to get dressed up sooner or later. But seriously, make sure to post a gift registry for your dream house. Some say it takes a village, but we know it starts on the porch.

  11. One word, hon: PRIMER

    Comment by mojo — April 18, 2012 @ 2:51 pm

  12. PS: if you’re painting, you can get some nice molding/filigree to make a design on the front panel(s). Paint hides all.

  13. I just got through putting on a coat of the best.
I HATE painting but this is going to be so fabulous and this long drawn out fucking closing on the house has me hanging by the thread of the thread of the thread I have been hanging from for the last 4 months that i HAVE to keep doing stuff or I’ll fall apart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But you got there first, nice!

Sondra, will you have a matching floor cushion for when the door is open to see the monitor? Or one of those game chairs for back support?

    Gonna be neat-o.

  21. You could decoupage a picture on the middle door.

Like maybe Lancelot and Guinevere in a close embrace while corgis frolic at their feet.

  22. ^ Oops, did I mean Arthur?

    Comment by Ironic in Denver — April 18, 2012 @ 9:45 pm

  23. ^ Lancelot and Arthur? *ewwwww*

Not big enough for shoes, so it must be a wine cabinet.
(What? Well, yeah, everything looks like a wine cabinet to me.)
I like how you installed a false bottom to hide a weapon.

The key to an interesting or elegant cabinet door is the knob.
Y’know? like skulls? an’ the eyes light up? an’ stuff.

  24. ^ Doug:

    Elegant door knobs: dragon heads.

Lancelot & Arthur – ROTFL, Not what I meant of course, but I can run with it:

  25. OMG! The “Lost Kestrel”!!

    Comment by mojo — April 19, 2012 @ 12:36 pm

  26. Oh, and BTW: While you’re re-doing The Asylum, do NOT watch a movie called “Mouse Hunt”…

Really. Don’t even think of doing it. Not even though it’s hilarious. And has Christopher Walken as the “Pest Guy”…

Which in turn brings to mind one of my favorite lines from “Trailer Park Boys”: “I’ve met cats and dogs that were smarter than Josh and Trevor.”

  29. I found and bought the knob today.

Still painting……….and it’s been freaking POURING out so it’s taking forever to dry!

One thing this whole short sale dream house saga has taught me…is a little of that patience I decided to work on for 2012.
Be careful what you wish for everyone!

But at least I’m putting the time into doing something with it. This is going to be my crown jewel of patience :)

  31. Scary? MOI?!

I have it on good authority that I am a big, loveable huggy bear.

  32. Doug (27): Thank you! That is one of my favorite visuals in the entire thing. And now I have the jpeg.

Hard to know which of those two I like the best. The lady or the beast: hmmmm….. well, I’d be happy to settle for them both.

(Just finished watching Season 1, thanks to recommendations from folks here; now I’m gonna try the books again.)

  33. One thing this whole short sale dream house saga has taught me…is a little of that patience I decided to work on for 2012.

Say! Does this mean that if I pray / work for impatience, I’ll get the things I want sooner?

    Comment by Ironic in Denver — April 20, 2012 @ 7:31 pm

  34. ^ No…you just won’t lose 11 pounds and most of your friends :)

  35. More on dragons: for a visual of dragon work (the bad kind), look here:

Viewer alert: that link has no pictures of fetching maidens, naked or not. So if you’re hoping there is, don’t waste your time.
