  1. I’m astonished it even made the news without there being “an assault-style shotgun with a magnum clip and a part that goes up on your shoulder thing” being involved.

  2. The weed and the bong doesn’t bother me as much as Joe Dirt finger-fucking a firearm while intoxicated … he needs to do some time for that, if nothing else.

  3. [locker-room pat on the ass to Grant Rodgers of the Des Moines Register]

    Someone should write & tell Grant he has received the coveted Doug PoA award.

    The reporting profession is such a thankless job; what with the magnum assault clips, white hispanics, shoulder thingies and what-not plaguing them.

    By the way, here’s a picture of the kind of killer assault dog I keep in my man-purse to protect me in case I’m attacked:

    (Armed like this, who needs a shotgun?)

  7. Doug, that update is an excellent award graphic, suitable for sending to people who deserve it.

    I got to admit, I was anticipating something more ..er.. graphic, but in the interest of reasoned and mature discourse, I think you have taken the higher road.

  10. ^^ Doug is more circumspect than I. That’s a good thing.

    [maybe I should reform, though there's not much pleasure in the thought]

  11. Close, but you might want to hold off on shipping that award.

    Case- what a bullet goes in.
    Casing- what a sausage goes in.

    He said casing.

    *sigh* Yeah, you’re right;
    but it was a shotgun shell; and I was amazed that the article wasn’t the normal errorism, so I used my field headspace gauge rather than my no-go gauge.

  13. ^ 11 + 12: I’d let it pass, regardless of absolute correctness. I’ve heard lifelong shooters use the term “casing” for the “case,” and a dictionary lookup of the definition for casing as a generic term would confuse a lot of people. After reading for a while, I’m not sure but what both case and casing may be correct.

    With that said, I would disapprove of anyone saying “the pillow casing.” So, well, whatever.
