  1. With a number of Kennedys in town, the local economy should get a big boost from liquor sales over the weekend, followed by a secondary bump in the form of DUI fines when the courts reopen on Tuesday.

  2. Liquor control laws are all crap, regardless.

Laws should be targeted at behavior.

  3. The Govenor *could* have invited the RATz Convention-goers to attend all the churches on Sunday, followed by an ice-cream social afterwards. And, noted that all the county churches would be open on Monday w tents and medical peeps to deal with “Delerium Tremors”——-for those few who might like to take advantage………….. [....having trouble here boss,-----getting tongue unstuck fm cheek....]

    Amen brother!
Do the crime, do the time. Otherwise, I don’t give a damn what you do that doesn’t hurt others.
Get drunk and fall out of a building, tough shit.
Get drunk and trash your car, no insurance coverage, if it’s in the contract. (it should be)
Get drunk and run over a pedestrian, it’s murder.
Get drunk and nominate Uhbama, it’s treason.

  5. “[T]he state’s government-run liquor stores…”

Truly the most frightening phrase ever. How did this ever get started?

  6. If we can get them drunk enough, they just might do something real stupid… like nominating Obama!

According to the post’s linked story (*hem*):

The system is a holdover from the repeal of Prohibition, when Bible-quoting teetotalers were appointed to county control boards to keep rosters of local alcoholics and deny them access to liquor.

    Unlike The Ukraine.

  8. Thanks DougM. I guess I could have read the entire article, but I was pretty much aghast at the concept. The last time I had to deal with anything like that was Tidewater Virginia in the mid-1970′s. Which I bypassed via the on-base package stores. Had no idea they still did things like that.

Number one son did Nurse-Anesthetist schooling in Charlotte, but he never mentioned such things. Then again, he didn’t have time or money or the inclination for distilled spirits then anyway.

Alcohol, Democrats and rental cars. What could go wrong?

  9. a potential problem for bars, restaurants and hotels needing to replenish depleted alcohol stocks.

*cough*bullshitte*cough* rly? Like no one knows how to plan ahead anymore? ‘Cept, yanno, NASCAR types…

So, do the Big D’rats get to drink oversized sodas and milkshakes, too?
    Do as I say….

  10. Don’t want ‘em out lookin’ for lightnin’, more likely – that could get ugly fast.

    Comment by mojo — June 17, 2012 @ 10:08 pm

  11. mojo, don’t need no lightnin’… The ABC stores sell Ever Clear, 190 proof, which has the added benefit that, if it makes you blind, it’s just temporary. You will wake up in the morning with your senses restored but, as they usta say on Fantasy Island: “The Pain! The Pain!”

  12. “[T]he state’s government-run liquor stores…”

4th highest gas tax in the country
Highest personal income tax in the Southeast
    A lottery
A virtual monopoly on liquor sales (losing money)

    And we’re freakin’ broke

    Welcome to NC

  13. BTW: it’s an old story, sometimes called “The Baptists and the Bootleggers”

  14. Stick, don’t forget having to kiss the sheriff’s ass to be allowed to purchase a handgun.

  15. The measure will help small businesses…

See, Dems are small business friendly after all.

Will the DUI laws be suspended too? … Or maybe just if you’re there for the convention?

  16. Just occurred to me that the #Occutards will be fully lubricated, too.
