  1. Funny you should mention that. Here is a copy of the sentence I had JUST finished typing into a post on GlockTalk a moment before I came to visit here:

The country has been drifting left for nearly a century. A couple more decades could well be enough to see the end to even the illusion that we are a free people.

  3. Well, yes, but political advertising isn’t free is it?

So naturally it makes sense for the Obama administration to have spent a half a million dollars of stimulus money on TV advertising to say what a great job it’s doing….

    http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2012/aug/21/stimulus-funds-spent-obama-ads-olbermann-maddow/

Labor Department spends stimulus funds for ads during Olbermann, Maddow shows…. Contract shows no new jobs were created…. The Labor Department paid out hundreds of thousands of dollars in federal stimulus funds to a public relations firm to run more than 100 commercials touting the Obama administration’s “green training” job efforts on two MSNBC cable shows, records show.

  4. That century that is mentioned is about to come to its end. The Tea Party intends to make it so. Those who have noticed are encouraged by their steady determination and methods. What took 100 years will not be erased in a moment, but with the support of Americans and our steady intentions, it will not take nearly as long. So long as we pay attention……………

  5. Remembering the days when it was a free country….

… like when seven year old boys and girls could try kissing each other on the playground at elementary school without the danger of being suspended and/or expelled for “sexual harassment?”

… and when victims of about the same age could kick bullies in the nuts without being suspended and or expelled* for the same?

    * (and maybe get turned over to the cops with charges pressed, too)

  6. Iid… funny you brought that up..
I was mentioning to someone the other day about lamenting the days, where if a male was particularly crass to a female, she could simply slap the shit out of them and walk away without fear of repercussions…

  7. When I was in fourth grade, there was this boy named Danny in my class. All the girls thought he was cute, so we would chase him around the playground until we caught him. Then we would all sit on him and take turns kissing him. I think he must have sort of liked it, because he never tattled. No way we would ever get away with that today.

Then there was the Smear-the-Queer game – which basically involved dogpiling onto one classmate or another. One of my brothers came home with a dirty, torn shirt and a note pinned to his coat, saying he had detention for playing that game – not because it was politically incorrect, but because it was roughhousing.

  8. Nearly on topic but significant nonetheless, I had the privilege of hearing K Carl Smith speak at our Tea Party meeting and recommend that everyone take a moment or three to consider his message and perspective.

  11. Sadly, what I remember the most about that phrase was people using it as an excuse to do things that were putting others at risk or inconvenience.

  12. If by “free country” you mean that everything should be “free” ’cause the gummint’s gonna give it to you, then yeah.

  13. it’s a free country, but freedom isn’t free.

  14. Evidently the Sooners have been infiltrated by Lympians….

“An Oklahoma City kindergartner was forced to turn his University of Michigan shirt inside out last week because it violated a city ban on any apparel not supportive of the state’s college teams.”

A police captain in Tulsa was disciplined and reassigned because he didn’t attend a Muslim ‘Police Appreciation Day’ at the local mosque.

  15. Speaking of olden golden daze, I grew up in a really small town in a really rural place with nothing much to recommend it, but it did have a doughnut bakery that was a legend for eighty miles around.

Once I was old enough to drive, I’d go down there at 2:00 am when the first doughnuts came out and eat them straight out of the oven.

    OMG!!!

And yes, the bakery thought nothing of serving its customers when they wanted to be served.

  16. Add one more:

Cited for handing out free water in Phoenix

“Dana Crow-Smith said a City of Phoenix worker came up to her during the First Friday festival in downtown Phoenix last month and told her she was violating city code by handing out free water because she did not have a permit.

“… bottled water to give away in the 112-degree heat, but said a Neighborhood Preservation Inspector told the group they had to stop handing out the water or would be cited.”

    “Neighborhood Preservation Inspector”?????

She’s telling the City to issue a formal apology and don’t do it again, and she’ll call it even.

    Otherwise, a formal lawsuit.

    Comment by geezerette — August 22, 2012 @ 1:10 pm

  18. First of all, what kind of person goes out in to a concrete heat jungle of 112 degrees without their own water? Secondly, since when has the United States of America and its citizens been threatened for handing out water? Because there is a risk that the water ain`t pure? Would one prefer not to get the *green apple quickstep* and die, instead?

We have the stupid trying to assist the stupid. And the stupid trying to prevent the stupid from giving water to the stupid!!!!! This is stupid on the grand scale of stupid!!!!!

The remedy? GUNFIRE! No matter what, stupidity is lessoned by a smidge…..
