  1. They’d have to communicate with carrier camels if we took out their cell towers….hey that’s a good idea. That’s a hint for you military strategists. Make them light up those dried turds and send smoke signal.

  2. The old cui bono test casts doubt on the conspiracy theory in this case.

Politically, even assuming that President Obama is as sinister as it is fashionable around these parts to believe he is, he stood to gain nothing. Unless I’m mistaken, he’s ahead in the polls. Why engineer a huge PR question mark two months before the election?

The Libyan leadership stood to gain absolutely nothing from antagonising the United States and permitting the death of a man who was a battle-tested friend, an Arabist diplomat. There has been a steady stream of apologies and promises of cooperation flowing out of Tripoli since this happened. The new Libyan government has poor tribal and Islamist credentials, and desperately craves international goodwill and some semblance of control over a disorganised society very recently lavishly armed with the best Western small arms.

Same goes for Egypt. The last thing Morsi, who is dealing with renewed social unrest and trouble in the Sinai, needs is a flare-up with the United States while it is grudgingly willing to give the Muslim Brotherhood government a chance. Indeed, he just now exhorted the protesters against the film in Cairo to remain peaceful, and his police are fighting a pretty hot street battle to protect the American embassy as we speak.

While it is true that al-Qaeda used the protests in Benghazi as cover for an assault, the overall culprit is the film. Libya, Egypt, Afghanistan shutting down YouTube, and now an embassy got stormed in Yemen, too. While I respect the position that free speech figures as the foremost of American values, I think we are approaching the crowded theatre scenario, and the Israeli-American Jew who authored the screed probably ought to face some sort of legal consequences.

No winners here. On a personal level, I haven’t been this sad about the loss of a diplomat since Sergio Vieira de Mello. Stevens’s death was really, really unfortunate.

  3. Yeah, right. We may have lost a citizen or two and a spare ambassador, but at least our greatly beloved leader is still safe and unharmed, so we’ve got that going for us. Bet in another four years he has that pesky Israel problem satisfactorily resolved, too. Four more years!

  4. It’s looking like the AQ pukes he was handed to raped him.

Meanwhile, Obama notes that Osama is still dead, much like Dictator Franco of spain.

  5. I’ve been wondering— for the last few years I’ve been learning from all of you and paying more attention — and I wonder with all of your knowledge compared to mine and how angry I am at the irresponsible citizens of this country for their disregard of who this President and his administration is and what they are doing to our country how angry it must make you? This didn’t happen in the last 3/4 years. Their indoctrination has come to fold. The riots, the economy are nothing compared to what’s in store for we Americans and our freedoms. We’ve always fought for others freedoms I fear it’s time for us to fight for our own. Our only recourse is the ballot box and that’s been compromised. When I hear We love you Mr, President it makes me sick!!! Why is he even there??????????? His chair in the Oval Office is empty and he’s soaking up the admiration of his flock. So I ask — How must you all feel???

  7. Sheik (2) Welcome back.
Re: “even assuming that President Obama is as sinister as it is fashionable around these parts to believe he is, he stood to gain nothing
Uh, perhaps you need to crank your KisPer-crackpot-detector knob up to eleven.

Personally, I’m not big on conspiracies; but when apparent foolishness exceeds what would be reasonable to expect, y’gotta start askin’ yerself, “Do I feel betrayed?”
Not sayin’ he and his people are actially traitors,
it’s just that I’m havin’ a hard time tellin’ the difference.

However, given that he was raised and trained by ducks …

  8. The brutality in the treatment of the ambassador is of the level that most Presidents would meet with swift military action.

Obama said he would stand with the Muslims.

    Does anybody get it now?

  9. Libya got an Embassy here?

What say we intern the personnel and burn the fucker down? Just to display our unhappiness.

If they complain, explain: “Look, you assholes just declared war on the US, in case you missed it.”

    Comment by mojo — September 13, 2012 @ 9:04 am

  10. …the overall culprit is the the *reaction* of barbarians to the film. Or alQ acting as they usually do, wanting to kill infidels to bring about the Caliphate.

And I’m sure the touchdown dance Obobo and Biden have been doing for months hasn’t bothered any alQ guyz…

Or do you hold with the position “If you disagree with me I must kill you”? …or, pretending to be oh-so-Civilized, just “sue you”?

  11. One:

even assuming that President Obama is as sinister as it is fashionable around these parts to believe he is, he stood to gain nothing

When you lay down with mangy dogs, you still get fleas whether you want them or not.

    Two:
I am sure that the little known, amateurish films suck, maybe almost as much as the state sponsored propaganda in most Muslim nations. That is not the point. When they were firing up the mobs over the Danish cartoons, the imams add two more that they themselves sponsored to really get the Muslim blood boiling. If they do not have anything to offend them, they will make it up.

    Three:
Blaming the film makers for the mobs actions is like blaming a rape victim for the way she dressed.

  12. Geezerette(5):

Disgusted. appalled, sad and pissed off for starters.

In answer to the original question, “Yes.”

Obama, Clinton and the entire administration are a confluent nexus of all of that, and probably more.

And, you left out “Just Plain Evil.”

  13. This is truly sickening, but who hasn’t seen it coming, given that we are viewed as weakened by our apologizer in chief?

Good night, do y’all remember the 3 AM phone call ads that ran before his anointing?

The incompetent fucker ignored the phone.

  14. The differences between the West and Muslims cannot be reconciled. Either sharia law prevails or freedom does.

There will be war, no doubt about it. And our stupid leaders just wanna play golf and have a good time (at everyone else’s expense.)

Seems to work for the Anti-Defamation League. But I think this one might warrant criminal, not civil.

You may delight in pointing out how stupid and counterproductive the reaction of the Muslim mob was, and I won’t disagree with you except to say that mobs generally aren’t brilliant. What you cannot deny is that it was predictable and cynically triggered.

    Comment by Yarbouti — September 13, 2012 @ 4:28 pm

  16. And the people who predictably and cynically trigger these repeated violent outbursts are known as “Imams.”

  17. Treason. Every day. 24/7. The president lives and breathes treason. It is what he is brainwashed to do.

  18. Sheik,

I was with you right up until you blamed a poorly made film that virtually NO ONE had seen before Tuesday.

    But let me ask you this, in a ‘larger picture sort of way’;

Which furthers al-Qaeda’s purpose. If Obama is re-elected he pretty much turns a blind eye to Muslim Brotherhood shenanigans while drone killing one or two al-Qaeda every couple of months. With I might add little fanfare even from our bleeting MSM

    OR

Romney, with an aggressive foreign policy. One that they ( al-Qaeda) can throw several hundred cannon fodder at when ever the need arises.

Which administration is guaranteed to inflame the Arab Street, draw hyper devotees and immediately hasten the the final showdown they seek?
Radical Islam needs a devil, always has, Reagan, Bush and Bush were recruitment gold for them. Carter, Clinton and this neophyte causes them stagnation.

Please note they did not state these attacks last year on the 10th anniversary of 911

    Comment by Spin — September 14, 2012 @ 1:47 am

  19. Spin:

Word of mouth of the film’s existence was probably enough for many of the younger brothers.

So your argument is that Obama’s foreign policy aggrieves and stagnates al-Qaeda.

That sounds dangerously like a good thing. Surely that isn’t quite what you meant?

    Comment by Yarbouti — September 14, 2012 @ 4:42 am

  20. #2 Stevens death was unfortunate??????????? WOW for who? I’m sure his family feels the same— unfortunate??? Is that like when everyone was worried if someone was killed in the Osama raid besides Osama it would have been bad for Obama? Kinda like that? I have a lot to learn even at my age.

    Sheik,
    It’s not a good thing from a recruitment standpoint. I can’t spell it out much more simply than this;

Radical Islam must have a devil. And no one fears our bowing neophyte.

    Comment by Spin — September 14, 2012 @ 6:02 pm

  24. Spin: Considering that I have enough difficulty remembering to do simple daily tasks, no. I do not remember. I used to know. Personally I don’t care.
Sure, there are folks “near the top” that are directing the actions of these pigs, but for the most part they are probably less educated than the kids in the US public school system.

On top of all that, all this shit that is going on now is *way* to convenient for the Obamanation’s agenda. It stinks of back door payoffs and treason more than a pile of fish left in a dumpster for a week.

    Comment by Caged Insanity — September 14, 2012 @ 6:55 pm
