Silent Night and Greensleeves by Mannheim Steamroller both bring me to tears.
The challenge is not to wear out the charm by listening to them too often. I only listen to carols in December. It’s tough to avoid be overexposed to carols when you are out and about, but I manage somehow.
One of my favorites (especially since having babies of my own) is called Mary’s Lullabye written by Wanda West Palmer, it’s not mainstream in the least, so the only “good” recording I could find was not offical and just has pictures someone posted with the music. The singer is not listed on the album, but the orchestra is the London Philharmonic Orchestra and it was recorded in 1995 http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=GEr4HaxaQuQ
“34874654 days of Ave Maria” – here ya go. After all today is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. And the pipes belong to the lovely Mirusia Louwerse: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkY9HtwXNU8
I looked for a Christmas song but couldn’t find a Jingle Bells/dogs barking video accompanied with pics of that creep Obama.

Just kidding on the RWGTNJ stuff :-). Not kidding on the music being terrific. I think they deserve that I buy something from them…

Thanks, Doug.
A definite palate cleanser and better shift into holiday mode than the pop crap on the radio.

In my humble opinion, this is the best version of a newer song recorded by many:

No need to kid. ‘Struth.
Some might add: Quiet, keeps to himself, kind of a loner. Nobody thought he’d do anything like this.
Yeah, I bought a couple’a their pieces.
Speakin’ of which …
Hog, you have any Christmas music in your repertoire?
Comment by DougM (Well, thaaat sucked!) — December 8, 2012 @ 9:26 am
My favorite Advent Carol.
For year round music, I like just about any of the many versions of César Franck-Violin Sonata in A Major (Complete) which also comes in cello: César Franck Sonata in A Major, M1 ~ Jonah Ellsworth, cello; Heng-Jin Park, piano

More holiday-y than Christmas-y, but still one of my faves. You haven’t lived till you’ve seen me and my friend John Slater perform this one live.
