All the better to help clean the film of smug left on the roads.

But I question if it is enough

  4. Wait …
    $100/car and not means-tested?
    Why … why that’s a flat tax.
No, it’s better. It’s a fair tax. You know, everybody pays the same amount.

  7. Funny how that works.

They placed a “sin tax” on tobacco products, figuring to reap huge revenues, only to be puzzled by the fact that projected revenues declined over time. It seemed that a considerable number of existing smokers suddenly decided it was getting too expansive a habit, and younger folks decided it was too expensive a habit to start.

And they had such good plans for that money…..

  10. The average gas powered vehicle pays much more.

Where’s the leftist call for “pay their fair share”?

  11. On another front, pot smokers in WA will be required to join the pipe hitter’s union.

  14. Like what rickn8tr (12) said ’bout enviro fees for new batts!
Puts a nice smug SEG on my fuzzy face! (different kinda smug)
I understand there are technical problems with the batteries
in accidents where firemen can get electrocuted. Wonder
what this’ll do to insurance rates! Then I have mental pics
of the inefficient coal-fired power plants needed to charge up
the enviro-yuppie Priuses. Also the VW diesel rabbit gets
better fuel mileage than a Prius!

  15. This clearly falls under the heading of “if it moves, tax it”.

A radio show host today gave a Reagan quote: “Republicans think every day is the 4th of July; Democrats think every day is April 15th”.

    Comment by ZZMike — December 24, 2012 @ 11:56 pm

  16. $100.00 annually seems kinda low. I’m pretty sure I pay a lot more than that in gas tax to run my gas-powered non-hybrid Civic. If they’re interested in fairness (as if), they should tax per mile.

And yes, if everyone who drove a gas-powered vehicle switched to batter power, the environmental damage would be much worse than what we have now. Much worse. The idea that electric vehicles are emission free is complete horse pucky. It is the ultimate in shortsightedness. No tailpipe, no emissions. Ha!

  19. No tailpipe, no emissions. Ha!
Yeah, no emissions, uh-uh, NIMBY, but elsewhere, at the coal power plant, at the coal mine, at the open pits where the heavy metals for the batteries are dug up, at the smelters where the heavy metals are extracted from the ore using great gobs of electricity to heat the furnaces, which furnaces belch gobs of noxious gases, at the recycling plants where the batteries are turned back into metals, ah…but Not In My Prius Pious back yard.

Not to mention the natural emergence of a black market in smokes. (The market always wins in the end…)

  22. Hey, Mech . . . go easy on Hillary while she’s still recovering from a bad case of Benghazi flu.
And we should not be too harsh on Joe Biden while he’s still suffering from Cranial-Rectal Confusion.
Valerie Jarret, of course, is plagued with Bursting Testicle Syndrome.
Jay Carney is critically ill with advanced Vertigo from excessive spin.
Ben Bernanke has a serious case of Pitcher’s Elbow from throwing money around.
David Plouffe is trying to get over an uncommon common cold with projectile condescension.
Jack Lew has been diagnosed with a bad case of KleptoVirus.
And Janet Napolitano is the textbook example of Mad Cow Disease.
David Axelrod is still on the waiting list for a brain transplant.
Eric Holder has a bad case of Ethical Crotch Rot.
Tim Geithner has untreatable Infectious Incompetence.
And their leader has a terminal form of Sudden Exploding Clown Disorder.

I’m just hoping for the best and that when Owebama goes for his next physical and gets his first colonoscopy, the leading specialist reaches for the lubricant tube and grabs the Atomic Balm by mistake.

  23. Just read in Wikipedia that the new plug-in Prius will go
14.3 miles on battery power only! Wow!
Now here is a proper hybrid car! The new Porsche 918.
718 HP & 78.4 mpg. Also 198 mph! 16 miles on battery only!
    http://www.wired.com/autopia/2010/03/porsche-918-spyder/

The first Porsche plug-in all electric car was built in 1900:
    http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2007/autos/0711/gallery.porsche_first_hybrid/index.html

$100 a year road tax would be great for the 918 hybrid car!
