  1. I don’t remember where, but I once read that Indians called the Los Angeles valley the “Valley of Smoke”, due to the wildfires and the basin that traps the smoke. They were probably wrong, since there’s is absolutely no way allowing brush to grow, extreme dry temperatures, and high winds could affect the area.

  3. Again, Nature gets a veto.
Wildfire, landslide, earthquake, tsunami, volcano, lightning, hail, snow, rain, sleet, gale, hurricane, disease, predator, meteorite, gravity storm, bad gene, bad luck…

    …plus taxes and insurance.

Claire, your ordeal up north, plus this latest fire in my old late-70s stomping grounds made me re-think this birthday card for Missy.

  4. Fire suppression leads to more fuel and bigger fires. The Indians burned the brush, the Spaniards burned the brush. The greenweenies suppressed fires. California has millions of acres of brush over 50 years old, and ready to burn. Cut it, burn it in a power plant, run CA on the electricity. Or see your cities on world news.
